How do you get your gear and yourself to races?  Post pics!

Here's my multi-multi-utility vehicle.

OK, so if you're sporting a car like this, the bike needs to have the Zipp disc on the back and aero tubing or else your creating too much drag.  Just sayin'

Nice setup though.  My 2002 Toyota Rav 4 with the right rear sear removed fits my bike perfectly inside without the need to remove the wheels.  Too embarrassed to sport those pic's.

2005 Honda Odyssey Mini Van.

I never knew I could love a car like this one. Not sexy, not cool, simply the best, most useful car I have ever owned.

I traded an Audi S4 in for this van and thought my life was over. Little did I know how great a Mini Van could be.

We have a 3/4 ton Dodge truck with a camper shell where the bikes ride.  We have fork mounts on a couple of boards and they are pretty stable back there. Also if we're camping, all of our camping stuff and the dog can fit with plenty of room.

gvey - 2011-05-21 1:04 AM Chevy Avalanche.  I can carry 4 adults with 4 bikes and tons of gear, very comfortably.  The picture shows mountain bikes, but you get the idea.

That's great.  How difficult was it to mount your Yakima to the tonneau cover?

Ha.  Except the STI is about as aerodynamic as a brick! Don't let the obnoxious wing fool you!

Mrs. gearboy's Odyssey gave up the ghost recently at just shy of 250K miles. Now that we are empty nesters, she replaced it with an Accord. I currently cruise in a bright yellow 2002 Xterra with about 150K on it. But I am looking to replace it with either a Honda Fit or possibly Mini Countryman for two reasons - (1) daughter #1 needs a car that will handle the snow in Syracuse for grad school, and (2) $4/gallon + 16 MPG makes travelling cost more than the events themselves.

From the "How Old is your Vehicle" thread

2010 Honda Fit Sport. I call it my "Mini MiniVan". I was previously using my husband's Honda Civic as our TAV, and it was tricky with both of our bikes in the back.

I  just bought this about a month ago - it was quite the upgrade from a Dodge Neon! Right now I am hauling the bike around in the rear cargo area, with the front wheel off it just fits nicely. But I want to put a roof-mount on this beast, so I have the cargo area free for other stuff and the seats free for people.

2002 Tacoma doublecab.  Perfect for transporting bikes.  If I'm feeling a little nutty I use my 78 Honda civic 5-speed, rare to use it but it pumps me up.

I have a 00 Chevy Astro which is awesome as a TAV.  We have only one back seat taken out and I can toss in 2-3 bikes without taking off any wheels, etc.  I just bungie cord them to the side and go.

I will be swapping it out with a 12 Jeep Wrangler 4 door once they come out.  Its more or less a requirement for my bike to fit in the cab.

'11 BMW 328i coupe

With back seats folded down, bike fits in the trunk (with front wheel off) with room to spare.  This was a must when looking for a new car last fall - I did not want a bike rack.

I talked my anti-van wife into test driving a Honda Odyssey, she has now been a proud minivan owner for 1.5 years now.  It is a great multi use vehicle, especially on race weekend.  Our family can ride in comfort in the front 4 seats, along with two bikes and all our gear in back with the third row folded down.

Does anyone own a Jetta Sportwagen TDI?  I've been considering trading my civic for one, but haven't had a chance to see how my bike would fit inside.

I never thought I would possibly own a van and a wagon.

Dang it man!  I have posts about this above but here goes:

I decided *I* wanted an Odyssey as my daily driver.  I did the research and nothing else comes close to the combination of utility and comfort.  Had the deal all worked out and took wifey for a test drive.  She absolutely refuses to ride in a minivan.  ANY other vehicle will do.  She told me I could buy a new suburban, Escalade, the Infinity QX -- ANYTHING but a minivan. There is something in the minivan that is like kryptonite to her.  I don't get it.

I envy you.  I want one BADLY.  She won't budge.

It took some convincing on my part, I think it was mostly an image thing with my wife.  She was used to having people check her out in her sports car prior to the van.  It is funny now because I hear her tell her girlfriends all the time how much she loves the van, they all think she is crazy.

I think the key was when I had her image us driving to Disney World and how much nicer it would be in the van.  About a month later we bought our van and booked or trip.

Good luck!

The only people I hear saying they hate minivans are non-van owners.  I've never heard of a minivan owner who didn't love it.
