I'll be there. I went to college at Rose-Hulman which annually held a 5k fun-run through Hawthorne park. Those were my first competitive running races (though I did swim in HS), so it will sort of be a homecoming for me.

This is also going to be my B-race leading up to Muncie HIM.

HI Shoverbj..... another engineer here.... BSEE class of '96.

Another student and I did this one in '97 with Smilin' Dave Voltmer.  I did the bike, Voltmer did the run, and my buddy did the swim.

I didn't understand (this was my first time at a triathlon) that you couldn't ride into the transition area at the end of the bike.   Volunteers started hollering at me to S T O P and I grabbed the front brake and went over the handlebars.    Managed to get my feet out of the pedal clips and land on my feet!

Good times.

Good luck to all, and don't ride into transition!

Glad to hear some had a good race. I showed up in the morning to pick up my packet and was told they didn't have my registration (first sign of something not right). They let me race I just had to hope for a tshirt to be sent to me later. Anyway, killed the swim, somewhere around 10 minutes or so I got out of the water. Bike was going well until all of the sudden my chain snapped going down a hill. Yep that was me in the orange and white tri suit on the side of the road waiting for a sag wagon. My very first DNF.

To the other Rose grad just above this post, Dr Voltmer was my advisor, all seemed to have a couple screws loose but a really good guy. He was no longer a prof when I went through (grad in '08) but just hung around the school and the EE department.

Hey I saw you on side of the road, I was 11:00 for the swim and in the older timer last wave. I hate hear about your DNF, I guess if you race enough its going to happen?

Yeah, the DNF sucks but I had a great swim (42nd fastest at 11:12 according to the results just posted) and was averaging about 18.5 mph (which is blazing for me) on my bike before the breakdown. Gotta take the positives where I can get them.

I'm with ya on that taking the positives from it! I had the (71st fastest 12:33swim) it sucks being an old timer in the last wave after the turn you have a lot of traffic to miss (46 fastest bike 1:07.32, 21.9mph) same on the bike blocked a lot by cars waiting on slower riders (45 fastest run 35:27, 7:08 pace) finished 4th in the 50-54  one place out of the awards and 42nd overall, but my daughter won the 20-24 so that was cool, I had a good day. I did P90X all winter and didn't ride, swim or run from Nov 7 to March 20 and have been slowly adding tri sports to my weekly workouts I'm up to 2 workout of each sport a week longest ride so far 30miles. longest run was the 5miles in this Tri. I've been surprized how well I've running and riding based on how little I've done of them but... I am much more flex. and way stronger then in the past. I have to tip my helmet to Tony Horton P90X rocks!!!
