Has anyone heard if the race for next wednesday will happen at Caesars Creek?  I heard the lake was extremely high, so I wasn't sure how this would effect the race.

I asked on Wednesday last week and got this response:

"Stay tuned to the Speedy Feet website for updates, but my plan is that the race will be on.  Even if water conditions are too high or too cold, we'll do a duathlon.

I've registered for the race.  I'm hopeful we'll get to swim.  Deer Creek was high, but not too bad last week, and Buck Creek here in Springfield has receded enough that I'm planning to swim there this Saturday.

Thank you.  I was hoping they would atleast do a duathlon if the lake wasn't safe or too cold.  See you out there next week.

Latest and greatest from the website:

"Wednesday is the first of 5 Wednesday night triathlons at Caesar Creek. Onsite registration is $20 and starts at 5:30 with the race starting at 6:30pm. I was at the park Monday night and conditions are ok, definitely not ideal. The water has gone down a lot, but things are messy from being up high for so long. We'll let you choose if you want to swim or not. For those not wanting to swim, the duathlon will be 1.8mi run, 21mi bike, 3.6mi run. Those choosing to swim will start with a 0.5mi swim. Because the forecast does not look great, we may be altering things so please be flexible Wednesday. We'll do our best to give you the best event we can given the conditions. "

Also:

I'm trying to decide between the duathlon and the tri. I've swam...oh...maybe three times this year. Mostly because I'm lazy but also because my pool is undergoing renovations. So this will probably hurt.

Do the tri!  I'll be there.  Here's hoping any storms miss us, or at least time their appearance so we can get the full race in tonight.  I'm hoping the storms moving through right now means less later, right?

I wonder what the water temperature will be. I really don't feel like busting out the wetsuit. And yea I hope we get the thunderstorms out of the way.

I'm sure it will be survivable without a wetsuit, but probably cold enough that you'd prefer one.

So... the water temperature wasn't the thing I needed to be worried about tonight. Part 1 was the escaping floating buoy. Part 2 was the lightning!

Ha!  I missed the escaping buoy, but heard about it.  When I rounded that buoy it looked ready to go.  Definitely gave me a good idea of the current direction.

I finished the bike just as they called the race.  After I packed everything up, it became clear the storm was going to miss us, so I went ahead and ran the rest of the course.  I think that puts my T2 at around 15 minutes or so.

Looking forward to the next one.

I (along with another poor sap) swam after the buoy even as it drifted further and further away. Oblivious to the frantic yelling of the volunteers on shore we chased it almost to the point where the lake met up with the trees. Needless to say we were the last two out of the water! I have no idea how far we swam but it was definitely more than a 1/2 mile!
