Interesting - that guy from Kona that was in prison, Shane Niemeyer, is in this race and doing quite well.  up among the leaders in the M35 - 39 AG.

From what I can tell, TJ is also still among the leaders in his AG.  This is at the halfway point on the bike.

Is Shane FROM Kona, or did he participate in the IMWC at some past point? That's nuts and great! There's another guy who raced Kona who's in prison, but he's not out yet. Hmmm ... article idea ...Anyhow, I am sooooo excited about TJ "hotter than Phelps" Fry, and GOOOOOO BTers! Will be watching for a while.

Had a great morning watching the swim start and everyone heading out on the bike.  Time for a nap, then time to head out to watch the run!

It's the guy that they featured on tv at Kona that had been in prison and turned his life around with triathlons.  I think he is from Idaho.  He's very good - 1:00 swim and doing 22.9 mph on the bike at the halfway point.

I hope this link works.  This is TJ coming out of the water.  He is the first one in the clip with the green cap.

Yikes! I sure hope everyone stays safe, sound, and on their bikes (if drippy).

4:15:13 bike split for Lieto. Looking at the speeds of some people that bike course looks to be really fast.

hathecr - 2011-05-21 7:39 AM Looks like Eric Von Dohlen (Evondo) was 6th out of the water @ 54 minutes.  BTers representing well on the swim!

Eric is having a really good bike ride too.  According to his tracker he's near done the ride.  This is his first IM and so far responding really well.

Actually, Eric is off the bike and is in 4th place now in his AG

I noticed the runners of the folks I am watching are starting to slow down.  I bet the heat is really starting to play a factor now.  I've heard it is quite hot out there, and with the recent rain I am sure quite humid.

I just spoke to Rene's (catwomen) husband. He said it was about 90 and very hot there. She came off the bike about 3:20 TX time.

IM tracker is screwed up and she is off the bike but has no bike splits. I noticed quite a few folks I checked their splits for first bike was there and now it's gone and they are off the bike or close to being off....strange.

Come on guys...go BT go!

Kathy,

Great to hear; I saw the split had disappeared and was afraid something had gone wrong. Glad to hear Rene is out on the run!

Oh the heat - I hate to hear that. It finally got hot here yesterday and my body revolted. So frustrating when you've been training all year long then feel like you've made no progress.

Fingers crossed for all the BT'rs out there today.

Here's an example from a friend out there, a talented and seasoned triathlete who threw down a 17-minute 5K three weeks ago;

RUN SPLIT 1: 4.45 mi4.45 mi (33:15)7:28/mi
RUN SPLIT 2: 7.02 mi2.57 mi (19:26)7:33/mi
RUN SPLIT 3: 13.1 mi6.08 mi (47:36)7:49/mi
RUN SPLIT 4: 15.7 mi2.6 mi (21:46)8:22/mi
RUN SPLIT 5: 21.8 mi6.1 mi (53:04)8:41/mi

Hopefully he can survive, even pick it up over the next four miles.

He's in now with a 3:45 marathon, 9:41 total time. Looks like they have him 3rd in his AG at this point.
