Pre-race routine:

Woke up early and got loaded up. Had 2 mini bagels with PB&J. had a cup of coffer and got all set to go.
Event warmup:

Walked around. light stretching. Hung out with my family and watched the other groups start.
Swim
  • 09m 40s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a good swim overall. Stayed on course perfectly. No problems sighting or breating. The water was a little choppy but it only hit from the side on the short turn of the rectangle course.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 03m 35s
Comments:

Had a fairly good transition. Shaved nearly 2 minutes off my last time. Had a small issue getting the wetsuit off my feet, but once I got that squared away I moved pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

Have my own wetsuit with slightly wider leg openings. I was in a rental.
Bike
  • 37m 35s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 19.84 mile/hr
Comments:

I was really hammering on the way out and passing people like crazy. Then once I turned around I found out why I was making such good time. The wind did not feel that strong but once heading into it, it was really heavy. Had to gear down and just mash. I was still passing a ton of people. I only got passed by one guy the whole time. He was on a high end bike with a disk wheel so I didnt feel too bad.
What would you do differently?:

Not much I could do different. Did pretty well for riding my 30 year old 10 speed.
Transition 2
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

Had a good T2 overall. Improved here as well. Forgot to take my helmet off and started out before I realized it. Didn't get too far from my spot though and got out in ok time.
What would you do differently?:

Remember there is something on my head :)
Run
  • 28m 26s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

I was a bit slow on the run. My feet felt good, and my legs felt good, just didn't have the speed. It was very hot on the course. The blacktop path radiated heat and it felt about 5-10 degrees hotter than the temperature of the air. The wind was in my face on the way out which helped keep me cool but on the way back it felt hotter.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked. Had water. Stayed in shade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just my overall fitness level I guess. I'm happy with my overall, and taking 1st was awesome! I was glad to improve my transitions. Need to keep working on my run.

Event comments:

A good overall operation. Well run. Good helpers. Nice area and a nice course. Good sub sandwiches after the race. I would recommend it to anyone interested.
