Overall Rank = 362/1600

Age Group Rank = 57/166
Pre-race routine:

UP by 4:15 and had usual breakfast. Wife and I packed the kids in the car and drove to Centennial. Took about 30minutes to go from Columbia Rd to the entrance. Setup my transition spot, which was super sweet, right on the end and half way between swim entrance and bike exit. Spent another 30minutes in line for the bathrooms.
Event warmup:

None really. Tried to hydrate as much as possible. My have hurt me later.
Swim
  • 25m 29s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 33s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good overall. Melee at the start took longer than expected. Worked my way to the back of the front group and cruised from there. Breathing could have been better. Mostly 2-3 strokes per instead of the normal 4. Would have loved to have a sleeveless suit, or should have manned up and not used one at all.

Sighting was ok. drifted off some during the long stretch along the north side of the lake.
What would you do differently?:

Sleeveless. Slowed breathing more to 4 strokes per.
Transition 1
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

Stupid suite on the heels slowed me down. Other than that, was fine. Took a few seconds to take a drink and calm down. Forgot how far of a run it was from the water to the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Practice suit removal before hand.
Bike
  • 1h 19m 12s
  • 25.48 miles
  • 19.30 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride, hoping for better time but I didn't put enough time in on the bike in training. Felt good on the hills, just didn't have the extra power to blow over them (not that i ever had it). Avg'd 19.3 and was hoping at least 19.5.

Gearing was ok, but had the typical skipping issues of going down in gear.
What would you do differently?:

More hill repeats in training. Only did a few hill specific rides this time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

Felt good.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 50m 16s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

Should have pushed it more; too much left at the end. Started too slowly because of that first hill and felt overheated. Even with this strategy should have then gone harder on the flats. Wouldn't have gotten too much better of a time but I'd feel better about my performance.
What would you do differently?:

More speed workouts and bricks. Did enough hills in training but need to feel comfortable pushing harder, longer.

Post race
Warm down:

Food, food, food. Then 3 hours on the mower at home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Maybe hydration. Felt cramped from bike start to the end.
