Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official Thread

Concerning Augusta '09 the thing is I do not remember anything except the swim, the transition, the ride (sort of), and then . . .  Well then I woke up (sort of) striped down wondering where my bike was . . . a day later (no pain) the wife explained some (what she knew) is I had a crash, i was near not being very good, i was transported by helicopter to the ER. A day maybe two later we left Augusta for Tampa. I remember some not all.

A few weeks later I did IM Florida, the hard part was my hands. in the crash I broke most of my fingers. I had to swim away from the pack. touching the water hurt, getting slammed by the person next to me was "ACK". No blame on them, just I had to swim WAY outside of them.

Yes I have completed 70.3 Florida in '10 and '11. In comparison with the 70.3 and IMFL (IMFL completed in '09 and '10) and will provide any info you need.

Unbelievably fast swim, the bike is a bit more challenging but not overly tough and like FL 70.3 a single loop, last year there was some rain. The run course is a little confusing on paper but once on the course it's all good and lots of shade once in the side streets. Aid stations were very well stocked and attended. Tons of fan support and the finish line is one of the better for a 70.3.

you wont have any trouble with your swim goal. Bike course is hilly for us flatlanders but not tough. People from hilly areas think it is pretty flat. I actually really love this bike course. The run is flat with way more shade than Fla 70.3. It was well stocked both years I did it.

I'm in!  I just finished IMCdA, and will be doing this race as a prep for IMAZ in November.  I'm coming all the way from the Pacific NW, so it should be quite a change of scenery for me.  I hear the swim is wicked fast since it's down-current.  I don't have any time goals yet, but since I've only done hilly HIMs, a PR shouldn't be out of the question.

How is everyone's training going?

tell him to jump the fence - if this is his first HIM he will be hooked - There is not a better swim for a first timer - the bike is a quick one loop (well at least for those that can bike - I don't do well but I enjoy), the run is lined with spectators that are fun and the loops ensure you get to see your friends/family a few times. the town is great and NO I am not from the chamber of commerce.

Just registered as well.  Got nervous with that many people already signed up.  Has this event ever sold out?

The 1st year 2009 there were 3349 people signed up or right at that.  Wave's were about 24 if I remember going off ever 4 minutes but once you are on the bike it looked like ants as far as you could see. 

Last year not as many but still a large field.  I enjoy the venue and the run is awesome by far!

This year I thought the cap was 3300?

it did this year since a lot of people saw my facebook status update that I would be competing

And reppin TN too Leegoocrap!!! This course will suit us well since we are used to training on hills.

I certainly hope so... looking at the course video's I would have classified it as pretty flat haha.

I'm needing an extra room for friends if anyone has one available.

Third year for me and looking forward to it...it's a great race and good measuring stick.
