I have done the tall texan and small texan but not gator bait. I know that the bike course will be no joke....you will earn your spurs on that 25 mi ride for sure.

Bryan at Redemption does a great job!. Boerne lake is calm no boats other than support canoes and kayaks.  Swim will be in a cove out and counter clockwise.  water is usually not wetsuit legal but is often borderline.  Ride has a monster hill at about 3miles out to about 4. Don't recall the grade but a significant part of all participants end up walking.  Coming down is a blast pretty straight and a good roll out before having to turn.  Run course is on county paved road for the most part.  Couple of rolling "mounds".  Other than the monster hill a fast race. I'll be there racing or volunteering.

that brings up a good question.  i live in the corpus christi area, and was wondering how do i get some big hill work outs since the biggest inclines in my area are overpasses on highway (which i dont feel very comfortable doing)??

To get your "Hill" workout just head out TX 35 towards Gregory then 181 to Sinton...few hills but the wind will give you a significant workout.  Of course as you mentioned you could ride the auseway bridge couple of dozen times.

On the Gator Bait  the run course has been changed and the hillis out at mile 4 to about 5.5 on the course.  This is still a great race.

i live in kingsville so i guess i would have to make a road trip to get some hill work.  i thought the run was a 5k?  so when you say a hill at mile 4 or 5.5?  did they increase the run? or change up the event.  the one i'm doing is the sprint august 13.

The killer  hill is on the bike I originally mentioned at mile 3 to 4   it is farther out than that and is in both of the Gator Bait Tris (Oly & Sprint).

Getting to the Causeway bridge Gregory and Sinton would be a good workout from Kingsville...but you could handle it (?)

i've only done the tiny texan and Boerne lake but i go there for my open water and brick workouts too.  Those hills are pretty killer.  There is one hill after the first where you seem to get faster as you're ascending, its really weird.  Lake is great for first timers though.
