Pre-race routine:

Did the race as mixed relay, Emily swam, Kathy biked and I ran. Woke at 4:30 and left home at 5:00 for 2 hour drive to Milford. Ate a banana and some coffee, lots of rice the day before. Arrived at race site at 7AM and changed in the Y. Emily a bit nervous, Kathy wanted to try the bike course.

This is the race Emily and I did last year while Kathy was laid up at the Homewood Suites with a torn miniscus.

Event warmup:

Kathy biked a short loop. I did a dynamic warm-up and then about .25 mile run and then 6-8 strides just prior to Kathy coming in on the bike.

Kathy looked good on the bike. It was so much fun doing the race with Kathy and Emily!
Transition 2

Run
  • 20m 22s
  • 2.42 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Slightly faster than last year, but no swim or bike this year. Second running race of the week (first was a non-sanctioned event which was super fast for me). Probably went too fast at the start thinking I'd be in the sevens the whole time, but didn't have enough in the tank to sustain it.

1st mi = 7:56
2nd mi = 8:38
Last .42 mi = 3:26 (8:08)

Fastest pace, 6:35.
What would you do differently?:

Slower the first 800m.

Post race
Warm down:

Did this race last year when we were in CT for my Grandmother's funeral. I'd like to do this each year, if they continue the race.

I have not won anything athletically in my entire life (that this old man can remember, not even 2nd or 3rd, so to take mixed relay (even in a field of four) was a thrill.

Event comments:

Transition and check-in in a much better place than last year. Very well organized and overall much better than last year.
