I swam across Cedar Lake three times today, water was great!!!  I wore a farmer-john style Xtera sleeveless wetsuit and a swim cap - just perfect.  I can't believe the growth of the weeds already!  Anyway, it was sooooooooooo awesome to swim without having to turn and go back every 25 yards, no black lines, rust stains, grout lines, tiles to stare at - sooo much nicer to look at the endless green/black nothing, the fresh clean lake water, perfect!!!!!!!

Great work - love OWS, hate vegetation, creeps me out.

I guess I no longer have an excuse to not swim (I don't swim over the winter).  Time to hit Lake T.

I made it in this weekend too. I have to say the random weeds freaked me out. Didn't like the shallows either.

I'm in Hamden, anyone know of a nearby lake that is good for swimming now?  I have already done the sound, need to try fresh water.

If you ever cut across RT66 to Middletown and head south on RT9 to exit 6, Cedar Lake if off to the right about 2 miles on rt 148.  Nice and warm already, clearn, clean water too:

There's Pattaconk right next to it as well:

or Miller's Pond in Middletown.

All good places to swim.

I am new to swimming, so don't mind the stupid question, but are the lakes and ponds warm enough to swim without a wetsuit yet?

you can certainly swim ow without a wetsuit.  The water temp is not too bad.  However, if you are not experienced at ows or swimming alone, then I would recommend using a wet suit.  It is a lot harder to drown with a wet suit on.  If you get into trouble you could always just roll over to your back and float with a wet suit on.

If you are comfortable with ows then by all means swim without a wet suit it is warm enough.
