[Palin] apparently, considers large swaths of America to be *not* Real America - how unPresidential.

Again, not a fan of Palin, but the same could be said of our current President.

Palin campaigned on the Real America nonsense; those are her words. I've never heard Candidate or President Obama claim there are Real Americans (and by implication, non-Real Americans).

So, no, the same could not be said of President Obama.

"And it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," - Sen. Obama

Did he use the phrase "real Americans"?  No.  Did he imply the same thing as Palin?  Yes I believe so.

For the record, Palin & Obama both apologized for the use of their respective phrases.

(it's killing me to be defending this woman....)

Head hung low...tears of shame falling on the keyboard...

I'm not a fan.  However I also think that she is not treated the same as other political figures.

I think you could say that of women in politics in general.

If she starts tweeting pictures of herself in her underwear, I may reconsider her chances of winning.

Yeah, I'd definitely like to see her pull "a Weiner."

Double entendres before 8am are definitely the key to lifelong happiness.

bradword - 2011-06-03 12:31 PM If Mitt Romney doesn't get the nod this time from the republicans...wow.
Mitt Romney still has baggage from the gun stuff from last time. He may not survive that, even against Obama.

Agreed to a point. If Mitt continues to keep the focus on the financial health of the country (and his strong business accumen) I think he has a chance. I thought we needed to elect a POTUS who could run the country like a business three years ago. Given our current state, I think that I was onto something.

For Mitt to really be accepted across the political field, he'll need to have a charismatic VP running mate. (Not Sarah!) I think he needs this to balance out his more ultra-conservative reputation. I kind of wish more republicans would accept Gulliani as he would be the right choice imo.

Didn't we just have 8 years of an MBA president who was supposedly running the country like a business?  And it ended with a massive financial meltdown and massive deficits?

I believe Palin has no intention of running, it's just that being in the spotlight is very lucrative and the longer she pretends like she might run, the higher her speaking fees go.  Plus, I think she just generally likes being famous and feeling like she's fighting against the establishment, and as long as she *might* run that attention keeps being fed.

I'm independant but lean to the left but at the moment the one republican candidate I'd like to learn more about is John Huntsman.  I think overall he'll probably turn out to be more conservative than I'd care for but I've liked some of what I've heard from him.  Then again, the fact that he worked for Obama might make him unelectable in the primary, no matter what his positions are.

Are we really going to compare Mitt Romney's business experience with President Bush? Seriously?
