I'm in! It hasn't been a great spring training though, so I'm not expecting too much. Tough bike course!

Hey, does the Griskus Olympic run similar to the Rev3?  Will the family be able to enter the Park to watch?  Access to the rides while they wait for me to crawl over the timing mats?

Run: double loop out of the park right on that first road out about a mile and then back up.  First 1.5 miles is flat/down, next 1.5 miles is up, turn around and do it again.

Quassy will be open but I am not sure if the rides will be going.  its a smaller event than Rev3 but very well produced.  May want to email teh RD

eeewww okay,  I ran out of the baseball field parking lot (other side of the road) took a right and followed the walk/run path up and down for 3.5 miles and then back.  I shoulda took the right at Albuquerque

how is the bike course?

I am familiar with that first big downhill on Tuttle Road for Rev 3 Half.  Are the other hills for Griskus comparable?

There is a 9 mile long up hill from mile 9 to 16 at about a 7% grade  Then a quick down hill with a 90 degree-sharp right turn, more bumpy down hill to a sharp left turn and another 2 mile long up hill, then rollers the rest of the way back.  (That's if I followed the directions correctly when I rode the course.)

Here is what I did on mapmyride - turn on the elevation view:

I'm hoping to ride the bike course tonight.  Haven't been to Quassy before - any idea where to park the car?

Park in the baseball field parking lot directly across the street from the entrance - bring LOTS of water - those hills are going to suck it all out of you with the heat today.

The bike is hard, similar to Rev3 som of the same roads, some different, but same terrain.

Rode the bike loop again last night (friday), boy that hill is tough - I don't know how those people did that loop in an hour last year!!!  I did all I could to make it in 1:18 and I was pushing hard where I doubt I could have run 10k afterward.  One section of the hill is a 1st gear grunt and struggle - geesh - good for the hammer-heads.

Drove the bike course.  yikes.  got tired just going up and down those hills.   only thing I can think of is how that course will really split up the field alright.

then the narly downhill going into Quasspaug Road (?) wow.

I know, that right turn comes up on you fast, and there's some sand on the corner.  After that, there's a fast down hill to a left turn and that is very bumpy.  There are a ton of pot holes between mile 19 and 21 that are hard to see in the shadows - keep your eyes open.

question:  how do they deal with traffic during the race?  Roads closed?  One lane left open?  Traffic constantly coming up from the rear?

Noticed alot of hairy intersections and just wondering how it was handled.  Guessing they dont shut the roads completely like at Rev 3.

I threw a pair of lungs and an exploded heart out on the side of that hill - they were of no use to me anymore.

that one is a small chain ring for sure. I think I marked that one as "THE HILL" in my course bike notes.

I love how the mapmyride shows the first hill as a cat 4.

I have done this one before.  The hills keep it interesting.  At least the swim is nice and smooth.

The "short" course is no help.  that hill is brutal.  It is a hard Oly for both the bike and run.  no let up whatsoever.  Bring the pain!

Down to the last two days and 19 hours before my first Olympic - this one - going to take it easy.  I had a few really hard rides this week, I did the Griskus Loop on Friday 1:22, then again on Sunday 1:16, then a Group A ride with a LBS which was 34 miles in 1:40.  Four days of swimming 1+ mile each in between.  No running because the shins have been really sore - I hope I'm ready for this.

Sounds like you are ready.  Just don't go all out on the bike hills so you have some left in the legs for the run.  Last year I tried to be the first up on each of the climbs and that was a big learning opportunity.

Youa re ready.  take it easy.  you cannot build fitness this week (or last).  Let your body come back a bit.  I am not one for long tapers but that is a lot of hard work.  Dont over think this race.  at the swim start go slower than you think (its like public speaking, you speak methodically because you always speak faster than you think you are).  You've done the bike course several times, so that is no issue.  on the run, remember the down hils come first so you can't "save it for the end" because you have a mile up hill at mile 2-3 and 5-6.  pace youself on the down hills but let gravity take you.

Best part of this race: Most beer you will ever see at the race, lots of microbrew stuff too.  T3 is worth it!
