Overall Rank = 158/648

Age Group Rank = 2/18
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 515 and had a plain bagel and some water. Neal drove us out to the race site and we set up our transitions, etc and then headed down to the beach for the race start.
Event warmup:

Little bit of freestyle and some fly strokes to loosen up a bit.
Swim
  • 07m 9s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 24s / 100 meters
Comments:

Pretty good swim...probably could have pushed it a bit more...but kind of hard to tell how fast I was going with the time trial start...all I know is I had caught up to the people who went ahead of me pretty quickly and the sea of purple caps.
What would you do differently?:

Might have been better to go at the front of the sea of sky blue caps? I'm not sure...either way you have to swim through the back of the pack unless you are the first heat in the water.
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

Kind of slow...but the transition area was super long...I wasn't the best at getting my wetsuit off...to be honest I definitely didn't need the wetsuit...so that definitely could have been quicker...
Bike
  • 49m 19s
  • 25 kms
  • 30.42 km/hr
Comments:

My heat went pretty early so I didn't notice the traffic too much and didn't pass too many people early on...the guys who were in the later heats had more passing and congestion on the course to deal with than I did. I felt it was a fairly decent bike split for me. I had rented a bike for the race from Bike World Iowa. They let me rent a purple GURU for the weekend. I really appreciate it since the shop generally doesn't let people rent from them, but they went out of their way to help me out! Yay for my substitute bike--MADE IN CANADA!!! Hahaha :)
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

Again a bit slower than I would like.
Run
  • 25m 23s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 05s  min/km
Comments:

Not that great compared to the swim/bike. Not used to the humidity and that took a bit of a toll on me. Could have used a bit more fluid with the heat...Should have taken more in at the 1 mile mark and on the way back...
What would you do differently?:

Drink a bit more.
Post race
Warm down:

I wandered around a bit and waited for Neal (disturbed275) to finish. We went and got some food and chilled till the awards ceremony. I have a shiny new piggy bank trophy!! :) Yay for 2nd place AG!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat and humidity. Not something I am used to coming from Edmonton and Vancouver...

Nice job on a congested course and a rented bike to boot!  Sweet!
