Anyone who has done or heard about this race, please tell me what you thought of it.  I'm thinking of signing up, but my concern is that I saw the following note on the website:

NOTE:  You will be cycling on roads that are open to traffic.  Stay right and stay on the shoulder.  If you would need to leave the boundaries of the shoulder to pass… DON’T PASS!

Are the shoulders really wide?  Do you get caught behind people and unable to pass?

I did it last year, they use the same roads, as do many other races around the area, you will have no problems, the shoulders for the most part are wide just stay right and you will be fine. Great low key event.ENJOY

I've not done the Sunset I did just do the Sunrise. It was an ok race. Very small and I do think there was room for improvement in some areas. This was my 3rd Your Cause Tri either volunteering or participating and I've noticed some of the same things at all the events. However the course is not a problem even though it is open to traffic.

Thanks for the assurance, 287sds.  It sounds like a good event.  I'll probably do it.

Julta, would you care to elaborate?  It would be great to know the weaknesses before I get there.  It might help me prepare.

I did the race last year.  It was pretty good, though I didn't like the afternoon start.  It was already in the 80s at race start.  Traffic wasn't an issue.  Late start messed with my pre-race nutrition and I had terrible stomach problems during the run.

Oh I didn't even know it was an afternoon race.  I should have known it was a late race given the title.  I can't find the start time anywhere on the website.  They do have a countdown clock, though, and according to my arithmetic, it must be starting at 2:30pm.  If it were later, like 5 or 6, I think that would be pretty cool.  Not sure if I can handle a mid-afternoon race, though, if it's hot.  Thanks for the heads up.

Edit:  I found the race day schedule on the website.  It is even earlier than I thought.  I would be starting at 1:35.

Last year the race was delayed due to the fires around Boulder (the res was a staging area for firefighters).  As mentioned in other posts, it was unbelievably hot in the afternoon when the race started, and since it's in Boulder, drivers tend to be pretty mindful of bicycles, so the open course was not an issue.  I found the race to be well organized especially considering the two week postponement.  The best part was the catering by "illegal pete's" when the race was over!

It's a good beginners race and traffic shouldn't be an issue out there.  Heard some recurring issues on incorrect timing and other grumbles in the past, but if this is your first race I'm sure you'll enjoy.  I'd check out the Rattlesnake weekend or Steamboat Olympic if you're looking for two of the best Olympic distances around.

That's good to hear.  I was thinking about the Rattlesnake Olympic this year as it fits better with my schedule.
