Subject: RE: view on protein powders? We've digressed off the original topic. I might add that protein powders are or at least used to be manufactured by few companies/factories and relabled. So that cheap super whey you buy at Walmart, or Vitamin Shop may very well be the same stuff sold for a lot more by Weider. Many of these factories/companies are also the main source of animal feed ingredients. So I wouldn't worry too much about the brand. As for the source, protein is protein whether it comes from a cow, pig, chicken, or whey. As long as the lable gives you your preferred carb, fat, protien mix you should be good to go. Again keep in mind that some sources are higher in cholestral than others, but pretty much all sources are the same once they've been turned into dehydrated powder. Whey protien is unique in that it is generally easy to digest by those with lactose intolerance. With regards to arsenic, it is used in most food processing and is even in your water. The primary concern for you is that it is a heavy metal that takes time to get out of the system, but I would be more concerned with the flouride you are consuming in your tap water. No I'm not telling you that Flouride is a communist plot to dumb down America, but what I am saying is that some municipalities get their flouride in a less inert form from companies for free. Usually it is the biproduct (waste ) from fertilizer or teflon production. So if they mix is off, the flouride in the water can be close to cancer causing levels. My knowledge of protein powders goes beyond research and savy shopping. When I was younger, a pal of mine offered me an opportunity to get into the supplement business. We were going to package generic whey, egg and soy protein for sale. The supplier listed a few names and hinted other bigger brands as their customers. By the way, that thing never took off so I guess I'm glad I turned that one down. Edited by Theforge 2011-10-03 8:29 AM
