Who is in for America’s Ultimate half marathon Challenge.  For those that do not know  this race it is 13.32 miles with one hill.  You start at 6800' above sea leval and end at 14110'  that is about 7800' of elevation gain.  If that is not bad enough the last 3 miles has 2000' of climbing.  WOW this is going to be hard and Fun.

I'm in, and gunning for a PR at 50.
I'd like to think I can get 4:15 too, and get out of the 2nd Wave.
But that'd be shaving 13mins, or a minute a mile off my PR, which is very hard to do when it's both uphill all the way, and has less and less oxygen availability as you go.
I know 6 or 7 folks who are approaching their 10th Ascent, and once they dialed it in, it's been very hard to improve. My Brother for instance, past Nat'l Duathlon Team Member for workout/intent reference, has gone :05, :03, :01, :09, :03, :11, but hasn't broken the hour mark he's shooting for.
Still, I'm really trying- Went 3:40 yesterday at ~9100ft.
Fire Up! Pikes Peak or Bust.

I'm kinda on the fence on this one.  I've run it many times in the past and is by far my favorite race (although it has kicked my arse more often than I like to admit).  I was planning to run Imogene Pass this year instead of the Ascent but I missed registration and the race is full.    There are still a few spots for the Ascent so I need to determine if it fits my schedule and if I can be trained for it by then.

Anyway, enjoy training and running the race!

I'm doing it. This will be my second time and I'm looking to break 3:30 after running 3:34 last year. Never know up there as weather can be a big factor.

I'm also doing the new Pikes Peak Road Ascent the following weekend. About 11.6 miles uphill on the road from the toll gate to Glen Cove, about halfway up. The new race is being held in conjunction with the Assault on the Peak bike event which goes from Manitou Springs to the summit.

This will be my first race to the top.  I have hiked up both sides.  I have heard this is a good race.

I am however A LOT slower then your guys but, I am looking forward to having fun finishing.  My time goal is under 6.  I figure with the money it cost to do this event that I am going to take my time and enjoy it.

I would like to, but I don't think it will fit. what date is it again? Plus I have not qualified. I was thinking of doing it next year. But it sounds tempting. I like going up.

Went start to top yesterday for training.
Earliest I've ever done it, but Vacation in July meant this was my chance until Sunday July 24th.
It was good training, but man Altitude just sucks out the will to LIVE. :-)
Vacation will be in California, but once I've returned, really need to get whatever time I can at Altitude.

I'm a Flatlander Newbie!  I'm sure I will almost die, but I'm just hoping to get done in under 5:00.  Post your bib # on here when they post them online and we can look for each other!

Wagg.  I wish you the best of luck.  The air gets a little thin at the top.

I'm going Start to Finish again on Sunday, leaving the start line at 6am. Anyone would be welcome to join me. I mostly power hike, with a very little slow running, and expect to get to the top in right around 5hours, not counting a bathroom break at Barr Camp.
I'll park just across the street from City Hall/the Start line, in the last free space on Manitou Ave, and plan to hit the starting line at 6am.
I've never hitched a ride down, but I'm gonna try Sunday.
I could wait 'til 7:30 and go with the Incline Club which might increase my chance at securing a ride before I just start asking folks at the top or thumbing at the edge of the parking lot, but my 5hour+ projected finish for training would put me at the top after 12:30pm. That's not gonna work with the forecast for Sunday being "A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon."

My Vacation "Training" was virtually non-existant. I stayed fairly 'Active', swimming in the Ocean, walking all day for 3 days at Disney pushing a double-stroller, but I've done one actual 'Workout' since July 1st.
Ahh, another year I'm already thinking about next year for the Peak, but I still may get a PR. This weekend and next will let me know where I'm at.
I plan to go bottom to top every weekend for at least the next 3 weeks, maybe 4.
How's it going for everyone else?

PR for the Peak on Sunday, now what happens in the Race is almost Gravy.
Previous PR 2006, so I've been working on it.
Feel I got Nutrition dialed in.
Will try to get the Cals on Race Day, but not carry too many lbs of my own Water.
100s hitting the trail at the same time is always tough, as are the long lines of Zombies up high, but I'm gonna try.
So how's it been for everyone else?
Ready?
Best of Luck!

The monsoon is definitely going to get active this weekend, but it looks like it may spare the bulk of the Ascent tomorrow. Winds should be pretty light Sat, from the N swinging around to the E in the afternoon, generally under 10 mph. Temperatures low 40s at summit, 60s Manitou in the morning. It looks like thunderstorms ahould hold off til the afternoon--1 or 2ish.
Sunday might be more interesting

How did y'all do this year? Weather was just about perfect. I was about 11 minutes faster than last year and took 2nd in age group. Looking forward to the new Pikes Peak Road Ascent next weekend.

I got a PR, at 50, so I'm pretty happy. Previous PR was 2006.
We were in Cali much of July so I think I can still improve next year when we plan to stay here (and train) all of July.
Weather was AWESOME, and just 2 days before the forecasts were very dicey- calling for Snow at Noon then rain at 1pm- but instead it didn't rain in Manitou 'til the evening.
Good Times, and see you next year!
