Subject: overuse injury for lack of a better term
Hello! The last three weeks leading up to my June 11 HIM I started dealing with pain in my right hip/quad. I continued to run through it-it would be sore at beginning of a run but would warm up and be fine. Now that I've done the HIM I really want to get my leg feeling better. The pain occurs as my right leg strides forward and my weight is put on it as my foot contacts the ground. The pain is centered in my upper quad/hip. There is no knee pain at all & zero pain when cycling--just sharp pain with weight bearing motion like walking, running, going up stairs without support. Any ideas what kindof injury I'm dealing with? Should i focus on strengthening my hip flexors? How long should i give it before I start running on it again? Thanksfor any advice/insights!

I hate to tell you this but you might want to do some googling of femoral neck stress fractures to see if symptoms match up and see a doctor.  You do not want to mess around with this injury.  A friend of mine had it and had to pull out of a long distance relay race mid race because of it.  When she got to the ortho he said it was a good thing she stopped when she did because if it had cracked all the way through up there they couldn't have gotten her to a hospital fast enough to stop bone necrosis.  From my knowledge this injury often refers pain so it feels more soft tissue even though it's not.  She thought for a long time that it was a soft tissue injury.

Ditto.  Go to the doctor.  Get a plain film if that is negative get an MRI. Femoral neck stress fractures are not to be messed about with and can have devastating consequences.

Ok, I am convinced I should have it looked at. Would I go to a sports doc?

Good choice.  If you PM me where you live I may be able to reccomend someone.  I know a lot of sports orthos across the country.

Update...thankfully not a stress fracture of any kind!  My large quad muscle was doing too much work to make up for the other three quad muscles not doing theirs.  Gave me some great rehab exercises to do and explained some massages (ie: torture)  to have my hubby do.  Whewwww...!  Thank you for suggestion I get it checked!!!
