Sunny
Total Time = 4h 57m 58s
Overall Rank = 73/905
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 24/129
Pre-race routine:

drove down from craig and amy's. bikes were already set up so there wasn't too much to do.
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 30m 54s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

good swim. felt good and was happy with my time.
really nice swim course with plenty of space, big buoys and easy sighting.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

saw tim heading out as i came in. a bit of a long run, but i wasn't dizzy at all and had a good transition.
Bike
  • 2h 57m 13s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.96 mile/hr
Comments:

first ever race w/ power. wasn't sure exactly where to be riding and with all the hills on the bike and run, i decided to keep it a bit conservative and try to hold 200w for the ride.
that felt ok but maybe even a bit too comfortable. people were flying by me the entire bike. i thought some of them would come back to me after the hills but no one really did. oh well. a good learning experience.
What would you do differently?:

maybe ride hard and just analyze data afterwords instead of using it to pace?
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

very good transition.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 26m 37s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 06m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

felt pretty good on the run. i had plenty left after the ride and was ready to see what the hills looked like. i kept a steady effort the whole run.
caught tim ~ mile 9 and ran with him for a bit. that always makes the miles fly by. jumped on a snapple guy's heels for a bit after that until the final hill. that thing was rough, but i couldn't let up if i wanted to break 5hrs.
What would you do differently?:

carry water? it got a bit hot and i had to wait for aid stations to take gu.

Post race
Warm down:

got a massage and then cheered everyone on and had a few beers under the tent.
didn't get to eat for a bit, so i wasn't feeling great until i was able to get food in me.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

bike pacing and a tough course.

Event comments:

rev3 puts on an amazing race. i would definitely recommend them.
my only complaints were:
1. the run was possibly a bit short
2. the food (although being very very good), was a one time trip through a buffet. i like to get something small and then eat more when i'm feelig better, but you can't do that.
