Yeah I feel pretty rough today too.  I was able to start eating again last night when the final folks were coming in.  Today I am eating ok but my stomach is not too comfortable.

Sunday was a great day.  Even the rain was fine, though I felt bad for the volunteers.  I had a lot better bike split than I could ever imagine.  A PR, really.  I even beat my Arizona bike split.  It's amazing that such a windy hilly course can be so fast.  Speaking of which, that's the wind I was talking about that I saw in my July trip. :-)  It actually almost made me crash this time; my front wheel got really wobbly and I thought I was going down, as did the person next to me.  Putting on the brakes, stopped it.

The hills on the 2nd loop were so tough, as was the run.  But I still came in about 45 minutes faster than my "pie in the sky" dream finish time for this race.

The swim was the thrashiest that I've ever had for an IM.  Maybe that's because the swim start was so wide.  It felt a bit dangerous at points.

I hope you all did well!

I had a good race, in spite of the fact that I got sick the night of the pasta party.  I spent Sat in bed with a fever, throwing up, and with other, uh, instabilities.  The fever broke Sat evening, and on Sun I thought I'd give it a go.  I changed my race goal to "just finish" and focused on execution and staying positive.  Things went surprisingly well and I finished strong.

The race was just fantastic -- great course, fantastic organization, marvelous volunteers/fans, beautiful weather (the rain made for a rainbow at the finish line -- how cool is that!).   Exceptional event all around.

My race went as expected, which included having to walk the entire marathon (had a calf issue, but it was my knee that acted up just like in Melbourne earlier this year).  The swim was a little rough with everyone being so crowded with the only worse one than that was Lake Placid.  The roads on the bike course were excellent.  The climbs at the end of each loop were tough, but it's always good to have some challenges in an IM.  The second loop was tough with the wind.  The run (which was a walk for me) was fine...not the most scenic run course although the stretch along the lake was very nice.  The rain really sucked...since I was walking, I couldn't generate much heat and since I'm small framed, I get cold easily and suffered.  During the heavy rain, I thought that if it had continued, i might drop out, but fortunately, it let up.  In any case, it's a fantastic venue (my wife raved about it from a spectator's perspective) and it was my 10th IM finish, so it was a great day.

Fred D - 2012-08-21 12:18 PM Congrats on the ten IMs! That was my 5th and by far the best venue and people that have hosted a race before. Can't say enough good things about this race!

Yeah it's my 6th and I am thinking the same.  This race could be highly sought after, soon.

:-)  It's hard to say yes, so soon after our last one. Last year it sold out in about a week right?  The word of mouth must be a lot better this year.  I tend to want to do new venues.  Maybe IM Wales.  I might be up for the 70.3 though.

Yeah, if it could have cold out faster I would have choose something else.

If they announced that IM Canada was going to be Challenge Pendicton two days ago I might have changed my mind and try this one instead. Oh well, at least I will see if I improved on the same course

Wow!  I had not heard that.  That's amazing, it's hard to believe.  Maybe this will get me to remember how to pronounce the city's name better. :-)  I wonder if it will be easier/harder to get into.  I suppose there's a thread on this discussion.. :-)

Amazing story!  And I'm considering IMMT for my first IM after having completed my first HIM this past weekend with Rev at Old Orchard Beach.  The goal would merely be completion with the plan of a solid swim, solid bike and slow run/walk due to an ankle injury from years ago that makes running beyond five miles painful.  Sounds like an excellent event.

It was, Shane!  It's a good pick for your first.  Congratulations on your first HIM!!

Hi Everyone.

Signed up for 2013. I have several friends do it this year. I was busy doing my first the week before in NYC.

I am looking forward to reading your race reports and discussing what to expect next year.
