Subject: Garmin 405 question

Question about the 405.  Can you set a pace say 8:30/per mile and have it beep at you if you are over or under that pace?   I know another Garmin does this, but i don't know if the 405 does?

Thank you in advance

yes.  you can set a range for pace, speed or heart rate.  you don't set a single value, like 8:30, but rather a range.  i.e. between 8:15 and 8:45.  It gives you different chirps for being high vs low.

You set the heart rate ones up right on the watch, as HR workouts, or the pace/speed ones as advanced workouts via Garmin Training Center.  The GTC workouts can be very complex, with dozens of separate steps, each with their own distances, paces, ranges, with different rest periods and paces.

Do you have Garmin Training Center on your computer?  if not.  Get it.

Open it.

Create a workout.  Add a step to the workout by pressing the little '+'

fill out the little box in the step.  it's easy.

Drag the workout to the date you want to run it, and sync your 405

Thank you... Can you have this as a work out everytime you go out and not have to drag it to the day you want?

dunno'  Haven't tried that.

You could drag any advanced workout onto the calendar again and again- for each day, I guess.

Why not set VP up for desired pace and run with it on the screen?

Oriondriver02 - 2011-06-28 11:18 AM Why not set VP up for desired pace and run with it on the screen?

Cause i want it to beep at me if i am over and under the pace i set.  As far as i know VP doesn't do that.  I hope i am wrong, cause that would be way easier.

Garmin Connect did work, but the auto lap doesn't work, i don't know when i hit a mile nor does it show the pace of that mile.

I haven't tested this- but perhaps it wont auto lap when you're in the middle of a custom program step.  I guess that make sense.  So, create a repeating set of steps, each 1mi (or whatever your preferred lap distance), each constrained with a pace range.
