Swim
Comments: Wasn't feeling it when I first got in the water, but once the we off I was fine. The water was much better than the 60 degrees the week before and I didn't have any shortness of breath. Tried to get into a rhythm and settle down. The bouys were far enough apart that I was able to spot ever 8 strokes or so. I do much better when I don't have to spot as often. I was really able to pick it up the second half the swim and caught some of the wave that took off before me. What would you do differently?: Not much. Didn't panic...just swam my race. Transition 1
Comments: Took a little bit extra time to dry off my feet before putting my socks on. I think it was worth it....definitely don't want blisters. Had a bit of trouble getting my wetsuit off my feet, but nothing out the ordinary. Transition was REALLY long which accounts for some of the time. What would you do differently?: Calm down, practice. Bike
Comments: Had a great ride. I was worried about the chip seal but it ended up being fine. This is a very flat course with a couple small rollers. I felt strong the entire time and had fun trading places with some of the M40+ guys. Definitely the fastest average time I've had. First race in the aero position and I felt great. What would you do differently?: More training, more hills, more aero, drink more. Transition 2
Comments: Helmet/shoes off, hat/shoes on. What would you do differently?: Not much. A lot of time spent here, but mostly because of the long transition. Run
Comments: Not my best moment. I had some pain in my lower back on the left side. Started above hip and went down the side/back of my leg. I'm guessing I pushed a bit on the bike and just my overall lack of biking didn't help. It was hot and I just had a hard time finding my rhythm. Ran/walked/ran/walked. About two miles in I saw Taylor spectating and she yelled for me to start running so I did. Reached the turn around and then had to head up the big hills. Walked all of the hills. Then met Taylor again around mile 4.5 and she ran with me for awhile...this really helped. The times I wanted to walk she kept me going. Definitely helped get me to my goal of under 3 hours. What would you do differently?: More hydration on the bike. More bricks. Learn to deal with being uncomfortable. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, drank some water and ate a hotdog (the food of choice for athletes!). Watched my kids play in the bounce house. Was having some stomach issues so I decided to head home and take a bath. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hydration, need for more training and my brain. Got up, drove to Throop's house to park and then walked to transition.
Not much. Watched the HIM and sprint racers take off and waited for our turn.
