Subject: anyone wear vibrams?

I am looking into switching to barefoot/vibram running to help with some knee problems and hear about and saw one person at a tri this past weekend wearing them, but didn't ask her any questions.  Does anyone wear Vibram 5 finger or other similar minimalist shoe during triathlons?

Questions: Which Shoe?

Do you wear them during the swim?

Do you keep them on in your bike shoes?

Thoughts and advice would be appreciated.  I may just wear them for running, but then it may be difficult to switch for a tri.

I'll wear them for training runs but not during a race.  I have the Bakilla (their running version).  You're not going to be able to fit any of them inside cycling shoes.  If you do then that means your cycling shoes are way way too big.  I don't think you'd want to race in them, anyway.  Just get them for training then run in a minimalist shoe like Nike Free.  I use the free for longer runs and racing. Great shoe.

I've got Merrell Trail Gloves (much like Vibrams in minimalism, but without the individual toe pockets) which I've worn in a road 5K, but not a tri. Get your running form down first, though.

How are they on the trail? I wear Inov-8 trail shoes and hitting a rock just right still hurts like heck.

Only issue I've had with rocks is when they hit just right under the arch. For really rocky stuff (sharp rocks), I'd prefer something like the Altra Instinct (I wish they'd hurry up with the Lone Peak!).

I have a pair of the KSO's. I use them for some of my training runs and if I am doing strength training. They are probably the most comfortable running shoes I've ever had. I don't race in them though.

If you do get them, make sure you ease into using them. You're gonna be using your legs differently running barefoot, and your legs are going to be very sore if you just suddenly use them as your normal running shoes.
