Pre-race routine:

Had lot's of time. Just waited. Did not do anything special. Set my gear out for transition. Waited to put on my wet suit.
Event warmup:

Got my wet suit on. Had 20 minutes from race start to my wave. Got in the water and swam a couple of laps. Stretched.
Swim
  • 13m 37s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

Still did not swim as straight as I would have liked. Did not cut down course as much as possible. Started up front. Start was not very crowded. Just hard to get warmed up and get going. Felt I could have gone harder and made less mistakes. Overall though I did pretty good for my group. There is some time to be found there.
What would you do differently?:

More warm up. Swim laps till I feel better. Sight more and swim shorter course closer to buoys. Just get moving and keep moving.
Transition 1
  • 04m 29s
Comments:

Suit was a little hard to get off foot. Messed around too much. Sat on the ground to put shoes and socks on. Had to clean feet off. Zipped my top up, put number belt on, helmet, and was off.
What would you do differently?:

Nor sit down. Have towel to wipe feet and just go. Step on suit and pull off with legs. Had the rest of my stuff ready. There is probably 2 minutes to be saved there.I will go with sock and see no need for flying mount with SPDs.
Bike
  • 51m 8s
  • 17.2 miles
  • 20.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Went well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

Went good. Had to go to the bathroom, but not much time lost.
What would you do differently?:

I had everything. I will go with tri laces next time. I had them but not tried them before race. Not too concerned with prta potty... not going to be miserable.
Run
  • 24m 15s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good. Probably could have suffered more, but still did my best pace yet. Felt great.
What would you do differently?:

Pick it up more after half way
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched a bit, cooled down, towelled off. Got some food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Can't say. This was my first event and I went all out.

Event comments:

Great event, lot's of peeps. 30% was first timers.

Well this was my first official Triathlon. Wife got up with me at 4:00 am to drive to Boulder and cheer me on. It was pretty cool. I went all out and was looking forward to it. Just did a 10 mile run race last week end so I knew I did not need much nutrition.

I have done a couple of OWS now, but still it is hard to get going. Was a little disappointed with my swim. Still hesitant.  Ihave more swims coming and I know I will get past it.

Transitions were a little long. But I didn't forget anything or make any mistakes. I can practice these a bit more and get the times down.

The bike was great. I have a MTB. A friend loaned me his Eddy Merckx. I was hesitant to ride it since I don't have any time on it... but 17 miles is nothing... it was flawless. Friend had it good to go for me. Pushed the biggest gear I could do. I have it for a few weeks at least and plan on putting some miles on it.  Could have been a bad move but worked out great and saved me a bunch of time for sure.

The run.... well..  I was shocked how well I transitioned. I was running along and it dawned on me it was no big deal. I went light on the bike and did not want any excess stuff in my stomach... paid off well, but obviously won't work for my longer distances. Started strong and stayed strong and got in a good kick 200m out. I could have probably done more... but I'm still super happy with how it tuned out.

Overall I'm really happy. I really really wanted to do under 1:30. I did leave time out there... might have been able to... but that is not what I did. For my very first event I am happy with how I did and have some stuff to work on now to get some time back.

Great job.  Especially for the first tri.  Now bring those transition times down and you'll gain FREE SPEED.   Way to go.

Thanks, I can't wait for the Oly Peak in 3 weeks. I really want to do my best to see where I'm at for the 70.3 in Aug. Will practice my transitions more and have them down. See where my nutrition plan is too. It was agreat week end. Great practice and training for my upcomming events I have been looking forward to.
