"he was just a barginning chip all along " says team president Pat Riley.

Lebron response was " I'm excited to go back to my home town team"

Ok not true.. Yet....But I was talking with a couple of friends about the NBA draft and this idea popped in my head

The GM that would make that trade would get fired before the ink in the agreement had a chance to dry.  Not even Pat Riley would be immune to that, i think Mickey Harrison would lock him up in one of his cruise ships and abandon Riley in a desserted island.

Really,,,  Ok I can see it for unknowns on draft day but trading lebron isn't that bad an idea.  Then again the NBA is known as the no balls association when it comes to trades.   I think a straight up trade for Dwight Howard would be the best for both teams,  the heat would have Dwight and bosh to controll the paint area, and wade as the slasher and crunch time scorer. the last few champions are the ones that could control the area 5-6 ft in front of the rim, Bosh and dwight could do that.

Lebron would be so insulted he would go into Eff you mode and either destroy the entire leauge or crumble mentally. either on is good for tv

I would never make that trade, and not because i'm a fan of LBJ, he is in the Heat and i root for him because he is in my  team but doesnt go beyond that.  I don't care what anyone says, or what happened to him in the finals he is the best and most talented player in the league.  Howard is useless iin the last 5 minutes of a game with his FT shooting, and talk about a great player being inconsistent, he can score 40 one game and then 15 the next one.

I would much rather get a serviceable big that can rebound, hit the open jumper at a decent rate which he will have plent of opportunities and call it a day.  It is funny this trade talk when they just made it to the finals the first year together and were a few crappy plays away from winning.  The Heat will only get better, no worse....

what about lebron for byrum and gasol?    but the salaries won't work but it would for one of them. so lebron for byrun or gasol plus cash or a pick to miami.  You get  your big guy and the lakers get someone to take over for Kobe as he fades out, and still have one big that you didn't take, plus odum.

I'm not knocking lebron for trading him.. he's the best player in the leauge imo.  which also makes him a great barganing chip

plus once 7/1 hits and the lockout starts I can't play any make believe trades.

hey with wade and bosh you don't have to give dwight the ball in the last few minutes.. let them hack a dwight and get put in the bonus/penelty which helps wade out more

Even less, Gasol is the carbon copy of Bosh and Bynum can not stay healthy and when he plays he is the definition of inconsitency.  Draft picks in the NBA are a consolation price, not something desirable as in the NFL.  I would rather take Howard if one of these two trades would have to be done.

I know that this recent finals proved the opposite, but in basketball i will always take my chances with the team that has the best 2 players on the court, and 9 out of 10 times that will be Miami, and in most cases they will have the best 3 out of 4.

Another thing to take into consideration is that these 3 guys are able to coexist because they are very good friends outside the court, take that out of the equation and add another big ego player that doesnt have that personal relationship and it could become a nightmare.

It is fun playing GM, I know you are not knocking down LBJ.....Plus he has earned a few shots with his finals performance, but i'm confident he will come back and tear up the league.

For the Heat, I would trade James for a superstar player-- Rose, Howard, Durant. With any of those three, Miami is hoisting the trophy. To have any chance of competing for a championship, a team needs at least one elite player. Cleveland would be smart to trade their 1 and 4 for any top level player , but that won't happen.

I don't agree with that strategy.  Cleveland's waaaay further away from a championship than 1 high-priced player.

The Cavs need to draft well with 1 and 4.  (grab that Lithuanian big at #4 if he's still there) and then install the worst head coach imaginable.  Lose more games and draft at the top of the draft again in 2012.  Then the Cavs can grab yet another of the best college players, giving them 3 total top 5 players in the draft classes of '11 and '12 respectively.  THEN, grab the high-priced, experienced free agent to make the playoff runs as soon as 2012.

btw, on-topic, the Heat will win the 2012 Championship.  Lebron will get the first of several rings in 2012.  btw, Rose, Howard or Durant replacing LBJ this season would have landed the Heat out of the playoffs before they even got to the championship...in my opinion of course.

High draft picks don't make a team a contender. Ask Minnesota about that -- Beasley, Darko, Love, Johnson, Flynn. I agree the Heat will win a least a couple rings after adding even more talent this off season. Interesting that you don't think the league MVP who lead his team (with out two other superstars) to the conference finals couldn't be as successful with D Wade and Chris Bosh.

Klay Thompson is my sleeper pick... until jerry west told everyone..  Great genes,,, father played in NBA. and in the league of players that do many things but nothing well.. he is a pure #2 shooting guard   6-6, athletic... wish the mavs would have gotten him

Trade James for a superstar?  James is better than those 3 players, so unless you plan in bringing back a clone of Jordan i don't know how much more "superstar" you can get.

No player will sign a contract extension in Cleveland, their only hope is to get lucky in the draft.
