Looking forward to my 3rd TRI INDY!  Does anyone know if the bike course will be different than last years?  If I remember right, the 2010 course was different from the 2009 course due to some road construction.

Hard to find hotel room, everything I'm calling is booked downtown, or has rates about 3x normal rate.

I hope the bike leg is different. Between the potholes and rail road track crossings it was a pretty awful bike course.

on their flyer it says newly paved bike course, I'm not sure what parts but it has to help.  I really liked this race and I plan to be there.

You won't be able to find a hotel in or near downtown; the GenCon convention is the same weekend. Your best bet is to look for hotels outside of the I-465 ring and drive in that morning.

I plan to be there as well. As far as the bike course goes, they still haven't posted the map yet. I think the newly paved roads they are talking about are on Lafayette Rd. but I could be mistaken about that.

Concerning the bike course... the roads in the area are mostly repaved. From 16th to cold spring is new pavement. Cold Spring Rd (Part of 09, not 10) is mostly new. They slacked on repaving on the north end of the road. 30th has been repaved.

Lafayette still hasn't been repaved. So, if the course is the same as 10, its still going to be a bit rough in that area.

I live 10-15 mins south of the city through I65. Just the next exit down (County Line Road) there's a brand new hotel

Hilton Garden Inn

5255 Noggle Way
Indianapolis, IN 46237-8583

(317) 888-4814

So from that hotel to the tri location is mostly highway until you enter downtown.  That early in the morning you should not have traffic problems.

Anyone know when this sold out last year?  I haven't registered yet, but I'm planning to and didn't want to miss out.

Also, I lived in Indy from 2000-2004.  Please tell me the Canal is in much better shape than it was back then.  I can't imagine even wading in that thing.

The canal is still pretty gross. The white part of my tri top was green when I got out of the water. The nice part is you swim so close to a wall that spotting is easy.

The canal swim was not grose at all.  I have swum in lots more icky lakes in indiana.  It was actually pretty cool to get some great swim photos...husband "walked" the swim with me as he took pictures.

Anyone know if they are close to selling out again this year?  Hope some cooler weather comes Indy way so we can still wear the wetsuits.

I hope you're right!!  Only this year I will not leave my wetsuit in the truck.  Last year I watched the water temperature throughout the week and it was looking very likely it would NOT be wetsuit legal.  Then after I had my transition set up and I no longer had time to get back to my truck to pick up my suit they announced it would be a wetsuit legal race.  I was rahter upset that I left it in my vehicle.

I will not make the same mistake this year!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely... I didn't get a chance to warm up in the water last year, so I jumped in and came up for my first breath in shock at how cold the water was.  I'll definitely take the wetsuit this year, and hopefully get a warmup in.  I don't know if I'll use the wetsuit, but I'll definitely take it.

I hope the bike course is a little smoother this year, although, I really didn't think it was THAT bad with the exception of the railroad crossings.  And, I hope I don't witness another bike/car accident.  I saw a minivan turn directly in front of a cyclist last year and the cyclist ended up shattering the rear window of the van on impact.

Well I may be wrong, their website says water temp as of July 19th 82 degrees.  If I remember right it was hot last year and I thought no way is this going to be wet suit legal and the water was cold.  Maybe they did some type of filtering of the water last year?

Yeah, I saw it was 82 degrees on their website, but I think they claimed something like 80 degrees a few days before the race last year, but there's just no way it was anywhere close to 80.  I wonder if they checked it in the middle of the day.

I drove the course today and I didn't think it was too bad. The were only a couple of rough sections that you have to look out for, but that first railroad track looks horrible. I'm not sure how I'll attack it come race day, but I'll be carrying a spare tube for sure. There are a few sections with new pavement that will be fun to ride on.

I hope the weather gets better here in the next few weeks, these 100 plus temps are rough.

I lost a water bottle at those railroad tracks last year because the crossing was so rough.  If I remember correctly, they put a piece of plywood over the tracks, but it didn't help enough.  The second time around last year, I saw a girl wipe out because of those tracks.

I'm doing the sprint this weekend and they have the water temp as 82 as of July 19th, so maybe they posted the wrong temp for the Indy tri because it says the same thing for the sprint at eagle creek.

I'd believe 82 for Eagle Creek right now given as hot as it's been, even in the mornings.  The canal might lose more heat at night being so shallow, but it also probably heats up quickly during the day.
