I am looking forward to it AND really glad I didn't sign up for the TriStar distance

I am really really really hoping for not too much wind and water temps that are either wetsuit legal (ideal) or wetsuit friendly.  I will disqualify myself for awards to wear my suit if it's under 84 degrees.  Not that I'd win anything at this distance!

Yeah, I am especially excited about the womens option - pretty rare.  This race is very nicely done (so far anyway).

Emily,

I found a website that listed the water temps for every two weeks essentially from ice-out to the first hard freeze for either last year or 2009, which showed the temp at 71 on race weekend, and 77 two weeks before. Of course, that 77 was the highest temp recorded all summer, and it is quite clearly into the low-mid 80s this year (based on feel...I can't find current measured temps anywhere online). I'm going to guess that the temps will come down substantially in the next 4 weeks, especially once the dew points drop, nighttime lows come down, and we get that typical late August cold snap with rain...

The last group training ride is today and I'm thinking about attending.  I would guess that most show up on road bikes, but can someone verify this?

I don't know, but I would not assume this...    A training ride related to a triathlon would be most likely tribikes I would think...   Or at least tribike friendly.

I ran the run course this weekend.  I am not a fan of the hills!  Although it does seem there's a nice long downhill on 82nd Avenue, before you hit the little neighborhood.  It's sunny but at least the gradual decline helps.  Otherwise, that's a lot of hills!   I predict my worst Oly 10k yet.

Don't want to hear about any hills. I'm going to pretend that the course is pan flat. Not that I'm expecting any kind of run miracle over here anyway.

Yeah, sure, sign me up to ride with macca the day before the race. I'm sure that's part of the typical taper.

If I could even get onto his tail to draft for any length of time, I'm sure I'd be dropped after a couple of miles.

Aww... don't say that!!! I had my triathlon 10K pr on this course last year... It is a bit hilly, but you can nail it:-

It's a nice easy bike so your legs will be ready for the run... I predict your going to get an Oly 10k PR;-

Too bad the sprint and Oly distances are full, now I have to consider doing the 111 which I thought was a dumb idea at first!  The more I think about it now, I must admit that although a bit contrived for a race, it will make a great training day and measuring tool for the potential to complete a 70.3 race.

I totally agree with this.  If you can do the bike and fuel/pace well enough to do 6 miles, you're good.  I did several similar bricks (only ran 4) for my half training and it was a huge confidence booster to hit the run and feel... good!

I appreciate your faith in me, but while it may be a bike PR something magical would have to happen to get a run pr.   However, I will hope my very best to not get a run worst.  How about that?

I'm planning on riding the bike routes Saturday morning if anyone is interested.  We could meet at weaver lake park or MG cycle and go from there.  Nothing to hard but a work out none the less.

Is anyone still planning to register for the TriStar?  If so, let me "refer" you.  I get some medal, but YOU get 20% off the registration.  If you're interested, let me know by the end of today and send me a PM with your name so I can e-mail them so we get hooked up.

When I signed up (a while ago), I put down your name for a reference. Of course, I didn't get any kind of discount. I think we need to investigate!

I'd definitely be interested as I was planning on riding the route Saturday anyway, but I would need to do it relatively early. What time did you have in mind?
