This is a heads up to everyone who has had to register for a race or event through Active Advantage.  Signing up for an event will initiate a one month "trial membership" in Active.  If you do not physically contact them before that time elapses you will have $60 deducted from your bank account without your consent to sign you up for a full year membership to active.  I almost missed it on my statement, and I am sure quite a few people do.  If you google active advantage scam you will see that this is approaching epidemic levels.  Active very politely and prompty refunded my money, however as I mentioned, I am sure the majority of this goes unnoticed.  Don't be a victim.

To add to this topic, I knowingly signed up for the membership to see if it was worth it, not.  But later found out that Active ties this to your credit/debit cards not you the individual who has not have a log in profile when signing up for races on Active.  I went through a long heated argument with them because i used a different credit card for an event and they signed me up for another year long membership. They couldnt understand how there process was wrong, I was already currently a paid memeber and they charged me again because I used a different card.  Pay close attention and opt out of the trial membership before processing payment!

Yeah, they got me too.  I noticed it after the fact on my Visa bill and sent them an email indicating that it was not acceptable and they refunded it.  You do get emails from them indicating that it is going to happen but you have to really read between the lines and look in the fine print.  Pretty crooked if you ask me.

What trial membership isn't crooked?  They expect you to forget and to reap that revenue.  I learned a long time ago those trial membership aren't worth the $5 or more in savings.  You spend that and then some trying to get your money back.  Good on them to return your money, so places aren't so nice.

DANG!  They got me!  Thanks for the heads up.  I meant to keep an eye out for that and sort of forgot (as I am sure a lot of people do).

ETA: I just called them.  The hold was a bit long - but I just said I wanted to cancel my account and get the fee refunded.  The woman was super nice - said no problem and took care of it.  Super easy.

I think there is a place when signing up that has a box to uncheck but I am not certain.  I was charged as well, but called and they refunded my money with no problems.  I would call them if you are not going to use the "service".

Correct.  I make sure I uncheck that box everytime that I register for a race.

I had the same problem and had to call them. Now, I won't use Active for registration and instead I write checks and mail-in registration forms. I've saved money by not paying the active fee, I don't have to deal with the trial membership, and I haven't had my credit card number used across the country since I stopped. Before I stopped using Active, I had two instances where two different credit card numbers were used across the country right after I registered for a race. I'm over Active.

Yeap, i didnt see the box the last time and the next thing i see the fee appears on my credit card.  To their credit their were pretty fast in returning the money.

Discounts of a few $ when signing up for races, but takes a lot of races to recover the $.

My wife gave them h3ll, got a refund and cancelled the deal.

ALWAYS opt out of those free trial offers. They always contain a "gotcha" eventually.

Actually wish I had signed up for the active advantage. When you combine my race entry fees, along with schwaggle deals, i'm already almost paid for.

They got me too.  I don't even recall seeing this crap when I signed up.  What a bunch of crooks.   Too bad we don't have other choices when signing up for some races.

They got me too. I consider myself pretty savvy and never willingly sign up for free trials but missed un-checking the box.  I got the refund but I was pizzed and swore I would never use Active for anything. They do a lot of local races so I do use them. I have also tried to opt out of their e-mail spam but it keeps coming.
