TriMinnesota Series

Overcast
Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 29/222
Age Group = 36-44
Age Group Rank = 13/38
Pre-race routine:

wake up at 3.30. make pancakes and eggs and eat.
Hit the road by 430. running 5 minutes late. so on road at 435
take a little over an hour to get there.
find a decent trans spot. already about 20 ppl there.
then just hang out and relax. so many people waste energy with nervous fidgeting.
Event warmup:

road bike a little and jump around a little after wetsuit is on.

THought bike was all set. Little did i know.
Swim
  • 05m 7s
  • 460 yards
  • 01m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

at the start someone on my left was trying to keep up with me. Unfortunately he was not swimming straight toward the first buoy. So he was pushing me way off course. I sped up to pass him so i could aim for the buoy.
What would you do differently?:

I should have dropped behind "off course guy" or made a waterpolo move and got on his inside. instead of wasting energy to get around him
Transition 1
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

I dropped my goggles . so i had to go back to pick them up. I was a little wobbly out of the water.

then I could not get my left foot out of the wet suit. Not major time just annoying.
What would you do differently?:

maybe swim a little smarter, to help with the wobbly legs out of the water.

Hold onto goggles

Bike
  • 37m 19s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.29 mile/hr
Comments:

i had to stop right out of transition, because something on my rear wheel was rubbing. I thought it was my brake. I tried to adjust it a couple of times, but nothing helped. It only rubbed when i was on the bike riding it. Not when i spun the wheel by hand. THe wheels were basically rental race wheels that i won for the weekend. THey did not rub in warm up or at TNT. SO they rubbed sporadically the whole time. After the hill i stopped again and loosened up the brake levers. didnt help. GRRRRRRR
so that was definitely a frustration.

THe big hill, was just that. big. it slowed me down a ton. My bike pace was more than a whole MPH 2 weeks ago in an OLY.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on hills. A lot. i am bad on them. I also need to work on my bike fitness in general. Intervals here i come. I need to have a sprint speed. I have only one speed, no matter how far or short i go. again I say "intervals"
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

someone put their wetsuit where my bike goes. (jenny)
What would you do differently?:

overall nothing. decent trans
Run
  • 25m 5s
  • 3.6 miles
  • 06m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

i was taking short strides for first half mile. I completely forgot to stretch my legs out and have long strides. Once i did that my speed picked up. I saved a little too much for the end also. that silly mind game with myself
What would you do differently?:

long strides from the start of the run are important for me to get in a groove. I need to work on my speed. I could have ran that pace a lot further. I think intervals are also in my run future.
Post race
Warm down:

walk around , stretch, eat, look for jenny, wade into the lake to cool off my legs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need speed work. I have improved my pace a lot, but i dont have a "short distance pace" Also when the bike was rubbing so much, it took my head out of the race. I have to work on not letting anything get in my way, mentally

Event comments:

it was a nice small race. I did not expect much. the buoys were late to get into the water, so we started 10 minutes late. All in all it was not bad. Got some decent freebies.
