Pre-race routine:

Up a little before 5am, showered, got ready. Had both pop-tarts and a caffeine boost around 5:45am. Got to the race site a little before 6am and got a prime spot in transition -- second rack, direct line to both run/bike exits. Could probably get there a touch later and still get a good spot, but not too much later.

Had time to kill, so enjoyed just sitting in transition on the small grass slope, watching everyone trail in. Gorgeous day to sit outside.
Event warmup:

Not much - maybe 5 minutes of running. Legs felt good... usually the first 5-10 minutes of running I'm reminded of all the little aches and pains -- sore calf, tender achilles, touchy ankle. But today? Everything felt great. Good sign.

Comments:

Held back just a touch -- I could have easily pulled this in at 15:30, but thought my energy would be better conserved a little for the bike and last run. Legs felt GOOD.

Comments:

Good spot in transition right by the bike exit, didn't linger long at all.

Comments:

Very atypically not too windy. More on the way back, though, and it slowed things a bit.

Felt like I was holding 20mph pretty easily... mostly flat course (2 overpasses + 1 small-ish incline) and not much wind.

Only one lane available and that made for some unintentional drafting. I don't think drafting was a penalty, but still - I tried not to do it when possible.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Maybe could have pushed harder, but that would have impacted my second run.

Comments:

Legs felt pretty good. Pace dropped at the end, but kept plugging along. I'm really pleased that my pace from Run1 to Run2 dropped only by 20".

Mentally strong throughout. Good final push.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Found my parents (who are the best support crew ever! - they never miss this race), and then milled around until results came out. When I found I had taken 2nd in my AG, stuck around for the awards ceremony.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

You can always train more -- that always helps -- but I'm completely pleased with this 5' PR and AG placing.

Event comments:

I love this race. Small (only allow 650 races) and personable and well-run. It's not very expensive and they do a bang-up job making sure the racers are taken care of. They had Gatorade products for pre-, during and post-race. Nice post-race food AND Culvers had set up shop and was giving away free custard. Culvers FTW!
