Age Group Rank = 4/5
Pre-race routine:

Camped at the lake on Saturday night with Becky, up early for 1/2 c oatmeal, a veggie sausage and coffee. Off to the races!
Event warmup:

Putting wetsuit :). Swam a little w/ Becky to help her try out wetusit for the first time. Also ran into a gal that did the OWS clinic.
Swim
  • 23m 50s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

1st open water swim tri. Let most of my wave get ahead of me thinking it would be easier that way, but wound up making me kind of paranoid as to whether I was swimming the right way. Think I sighted too much and tired myself out at bit.
What would you do differently?:

Stay with the pack, and just swim.
Transition 1
  • 08m 15s
Comments:

Wetsuit strippers were great! It was a long way from the beach to the transition, but still. Did take the time to test my BG, but should be able to do better than this.
What would you do differently?:

Need to remember this is a race. Think I was so happy to have made it through the swim that I forgot that for a bit.
Bike
  • 1h 07m 55s
  • 16.1 miles
  • 14.22 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Train more. A lot more.
Transition 2
  • 02m 9s
Run
  • 30m 4s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Run time included a bathroom stop right outside of T2
What would you do differently?:

Felt good on the run, which means I probably could have pusher harder on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Eat brisket tacos, then tried to head back to the campsite. Realized my parents had the keys to the truck, so rode our bikes to get the keys and then back to pick up the truck. Showered, packed up the camper and headed home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

1st OWS, so need more experience. Biking needs a lot of work.

Event comments:

Survived this time, hoping to thrive a bit more next time.
