Comments: I had zero issues with water temperature this year - no numb hands, no numb feet, and no cold headaches. I also felt like my sighting was spot-on. I used the taller twin-buildings behind the aquatic center until I got close enough to spot the opening in the breakwater wall. From there, I headed straight into the opening (no swimming along the wall this year) and then sighted toward the finish chute. What would you do differently?: Overall - I consider it a success. I was hoping to come in under 35 minutes and I did. So, I took more than 5 minutes off of my previous time in this race. However, I feel like I left some time (1 to 2 minutes?) on the table as I felt pretty fresh coming out of the water at the finish. Post race
Warm down: Nothing special - I chatted with my family that was there to watch me race while waiting for my friend to finish his race. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not having a good understanding of the pace that I could sustain for that distance. Event comments: Next year... no wetsuit for me! Woke up about 5:30 am, ate a half peanut butter - half cream cheese bagel, a banana, and drank a cup of coffee. Left my sister's house at 6:00 and drove to the Aquatic Center for check in. After checking I just relaxed, visited the port-a-potty, and chatted with my friend who was racing with me.
The only thing that could be considered a warm-up would be the swim from the ferry to the starting line... not much.
