Anyone know of a good route to ride from the Bay Bridge (stevensville) to bethany Beach? I am heading to the beach Saturday and my wife is dropping me off on the other side of the bridge so I can get in my training ride... thx. joe

I would start at Wye Mills at the corner of Route 50 and 404, there is a park and ride there.  Head east on 404.  You could probably ride 404 most of the way but I'd suppose that once you hit Denton you could probably go any number of quieter/more scenic ways for a bit before going route 16 to 113 then take 9 out of Georgetown to route 1 and down along the beach or take 113 down to 20 and then 26.

You could also take 404 to Denton and then take 313 past Federalsburg where you can catch route 20 (south of Fed-burg) to link up with 26 in Dagsboro and then onto Bethany.  That way you'll avoid most of the real busy roads of 404 and 113 but I'd be more judicious in my water stops that way as it's more off the beaten path and could be a bit of distance between towns/convenience stores.

There are some routes on Map My Ride, too.  Sounds like fun.

I picked up some routes from map my ride and from someone at a local bike shop. I plan on being self contained with no stops, so i am not too concerned about convience stores.. I have looked at the route you suggested and it doesn't look too bad. I am trying to stay off 404 as much as possible...

This Saturday on 404 will be no fun. Especially when you're passing all the cars sitting in traffic.

You can also use google maps.  When you type in the "to and from" and get directions, click on the little bicycle and it will give you cycling directions.

Oh sorry - I probably got to this too late for your ride.

Last year I did the Bay to Beach route from bikewashington.org, and really liked the quiet backroads that the route followed. I saw almost no traffic, except for the short section close to the Bay. (I was going in the opposite direction: ride from Rehoboth to Kent Island; meet up w/ family for ride across Bay Bridge, then continue on from Sandy Point to DC.)

I made it! I used a couple of diferent routes and made my own. Then I left my cue sheet at home and went by memory! HAHA. Oh well, it was a blast! I was only on 404 off and on for about 15 miles, traffic was stop and go so it made the ride much easier than with cars wizzing bye. Other than 404, it was mostly back roads. It was 91 miles, took 4hrs 23 min, no stops, AVG. 20.8 mph... Awesome day! Nothing beats ending in Bethany Beach, with a beer waiting for me at the house!
