Sitka dog is fairly normal, if not a bit clumsy.

One of the funniest things that she has done was to freak out at the first snow man my daughter and I built. Sitka was inside and I guess she didn't see what we were doing because when I open the front door to let her out she just froze in place, her hair went up and she started barking like mad at the snow man. I had to drag her out there and get her to sniff it before she would stop.

When we had cats, the bigger female cat would lay in door ways. Sitka wouldn't go past her. Sitka would stand in front of the cat barking until some one came along and moved the cat, or the cat got up. It was really only a problem if Sitka was in a room and wanted to come out. This only started after Sitka chased this cat under the bed and the cat got Sitka with her back claws (the cats were both front declawed).

My wife's west highland terrier, Stasia (sometimes mine too) likes to take food out of her bowl and then take it all over the house.  She'll drop a little here, a little there...it's everywhere.  We find food in the couch, on the bed, under rugs and in the bathtub.  Yes, she jumped into the bathtub to put her food there.  Throughout the day she will eat some of the food, but most of it is just there to be picked up by us.

She also likes to sleep under the covers.  She will burrow under the sheets or under her blanket completely no matter the time of year.

Jasmine, my great dane, hates the Goodyear Blimp.  Every time it comes by, she runs out to the back yard and jumps up to the sky barking and barking at it.  (I'm pretty sure if she could jump high enough she would pull it out of the sky)  This wouldn't be too bad, except we live right under a normal flight path for the blimp.  It goes over our yard 2 to 3 times most days.

There is a normal flight path for the blimp?  I thought it only did like special occasions and stuff (or searching for drug runners here in Arizona)

My lab-mix Kelly (RIP) would jump around, whine and moan when I asked her if she was a lab. Don't know what it was about that question, but that was the only time she'd act like that. Then she'd run over to my husband and look at him like, "Please make her stop. Can't you see how she's torturing me??!!"

My current dog, a border collie, has all kinds of weirdnesses. One of her favorites is to drag a clean towel off the bathroom shelf into the hallway, then roll on it. She also likes to pull out anything draped over the side of the tub to dry & do the same thign. Another thing she does is try to lie down in the water bowl at the dog park. It's only about 15" across, so she usually manages to put a couple feet in, or her butt, or her chest. It's totally hilarious watching her try to figure out how to get as much of her body into it as possible. One dog park has 2 large pans in a wooden frame. She'll put her butt in one and her chest in the other. I could go on and on - she's an endless source of amusement!!

Great stories everyone!

Our 5 month old pup, Buddy (peekapoo) is very quirky.  Like someone mentioned earlier, it doesn't matter where he is as soon as he hears someone getting ice he comes tearing in to the kitchen to look for any that may have dropped.  He also has a pre-bedtime freak out every night around 8:30 where he tears through the house at breakneck speeds and uses the couch as a burm.  He hits the couch full speed and then gets sideways with his feet way up on the back of the couch and uses it to change directions.  He also loves to lick and bite rocks but only those that are flat.  We live in NM so our landscape consists of thousands upon thousands of rocks but he digs through them and finds the flat ones and brings them to the patio and licks and bites them.

I love my Buddy!

Prince, our wheaten terrier, goes absolutely bonkers when a vacuum starts up.  He will do anything he can to run in, bite it, run off, run in, bite, run off, etc.  If we lock him in a room (he's beginning to make some holes in our vacuum), he barks and jumps around hoping to be let loose to capture the beast.

Yeah, the blimp is housed in Carson, CA about 5 miles east of the ocean.  When it is not out at special occasions, it regularly flies up and down the coast from Manhattan Beach to Redondo Beach.  My house is about half way from the landing zone to the beach.  When I was a kid on the east coast, I was impressed every time a blimp went overhead, now I just try to keep my dog from jumping the fence or dragging me down the street.  (Notice how I brought this response back to the original thread Cool)

Just found this to find out where the blimp is right now.  Just click on the blimp pictures to find out where it is.  Looks like no blimp chasing today.  Jasmine will be sad.  http://www.goodyearblimp.com/cfmx/web/blimp/fleet/

I thought my dogs were weird, but y'alls really take the cake.

Misty, my lab/border collie mix does like to chase any small creature on the television and some not so small.  Her favorite is horses.  She'll go crazy in front of the tv if there are horses.  Funny, she met one in real life and was terrified.

Sweetie, my lab, chases lights.  ANY light.  If there's a sunny day she can be self-entertained trying to pounce on the light that shines off her tags.  She actually knows the flashlight is a source of "shiny things" now.  She gets very excited if I pick it up.

Otherwise, I'll have to think if they do anything else weird.

Ha, that reminds me of one of my dogs.  He is scared of the vacuum, but doesn't want to leave the room it is in.  So of course I chase him with the vacuum.  What?  Don't judge.  The other dog loves it and will let me vacuum her for hours.  Funny, I have a male cat that is scared of it and a female cat that loves it.

My dog was also scared of the treadmill.  So much so that I got on it once while he was in the room and he freaked out and came over and tried to get me off it.  Sadly by bitting me.  Thankfully he wasn't being aggressive so of course no damage.  I got him over it though and eventually even him running on the treadmill.

Ok, I suppose low on the weirdness scale -- or not, LOL, Max our Aussie

  • lies down to drink water -which seems to crack ppl up
  • now has taken to same when eating
  • completely dunks his head underwater when swimming
  • and in the morning buries his head in my chest/ stomach deeply inhaling, almost like he wants to make sure it's still me?
  • and funniest yet, when I spray a can of whip cream he comes running from a mile away and I can get him to catch it out of the can.  Still have to master it for a proper YouTube upload!

Bear, my Yellow Lab, has a eating disorder. He will take a bite of food and bring it to the living room and walk around eating it.

Also, he raised one of our cats from a kitten like its mother. He let it suckle on his nipples till she fell asleep.

We live on a Chicago street that is pretty heavily traveled by pedestrians.  Our lot is narrow and the sides are hidden from the sidewalk by various vegetation.  My black female Pug, Gladys, likes to lay under the vegetation (wisteria vines) and wait for passerby.  As soon as they cross in front of our property, she leaps out from under the wisteria (we call it her spider hole) and barks like crazy.  Usually the folks scream, jump, or at least  say something really loudly.  I am sure I can see her smiling afterwards.

If I take her collar off she goes crazy trying to find it ,running around the house bouncing of the walls but when I reveal I have it she sit down and head up to put the collar back. Two she crawls under the covers to sleep and in the morning she is laying her head on the pillow next to me like a human. Luv my little girl

Mandy plays a game of fetch that involves an elaborate ritual for transfer of the ball from her to me.   She prances back and forth a few times after a retreival - like a victory dance.    She then puts it between my feet.    Now, I would love to pick it up with the chucker, but no.    She insists I pick it up with my hand (she won't let me get it with the chucker).   I say back up, and she backs up, crouches in the ready border collie posisition.   we lock eyes.   I hold out my index finger and slowly bend down and touch the ball with one finger.   Upon contact, she runs out for the fetch.

People ask me how I trained her to do that.   Let's get this straight.   She trained me.

she also knows the word "scrotum".    My husband said she had a toy that looked like a scrotum, so that is what we taught her it was.    In front of company, it is funny to send her looking for it.  "Mandy, get the scrotum!".   she swings her head up, full alert, and runs off looking for it.

My 2yo chocolate lab loves his back legs rubbed, so the only time when he likes them rubbed is when i am using the restroom and when friends come over. He will not walk up to you and greet you, he will just walk up to you and throw his hips into you and look at you and hope that you will rub his back legs. Kind of cute!!!

My 1 year old golden likes to try to walk like a baby. In the morning when we are still in bed she puts her Front paws up on the mattress. Then she walks back and forth along the edge of the bed like a baby just learning how to walk. Strange.

Sitka goes nuts over horses as well. Once I was getting ready for a hike and a couple horses w/riders walked through the parking lot. Sitka managed to escape from the back of the car and goes tearing up to them. Gets about 6 feet away, cowers and ran back to the car and hopped in the back. Thankfully the riders were amused too.

I remembered this one the other day...

When ever Annie had to go out, she would walk up to me sit patiently and stare for a few moments. If I didn't get up she would gently "beak" me by bumping her nose into my thigh. If I still didn't move fast enough, she would do it again a little harder as if to say "I'm really not kidding, I HAVE TO GO NOW!" and would give me this head tilt/ glare of "Dumba$$, I am not responsible for what occurs next because I gave you several opportunities to address this issue."
