courtney_leone - 2011-06-29 11:05 AM I'm horrible at bike repair, maintenance, etc. I need a class, bike store, person to help me. So far, I haven't had a lot of luck. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! (I'm actually in Cypress/NW side) but that doesn't really matter at this point

Hey Courtney! I am also in the Cypress/NW side Smile Is the shop where you got your bike an option?

If not I have heard very good things about Lonestar Bicycles and there is a Bike Barn right off 290 and I think it's Spring Cypress but not sure. We bought my daughers bike there. Another option is Northwest Cycles off 290 and Jones.

I live off highway 6 in the Copperfield area so if you're ever looking for someone to ride with drop me a line.

2nd vote for Northwest Cycling (now Houston Cycling Centers). My wife just bought her Speed Concept from them, and they are awesome!

+1 for Lonestar! It's in the shopping center behind Sonic right before Wal Mart

Which exit? I might head over there today. I've been wanting to go for a while.

REI stores usually host bike maintenance classes.....some free, some cost.

May be worth a checkout. I know there is at least one in Houston.....near the Galleria and I think there may be one up north.

My favorite is

Bike Barn - Champions

Spring, TX

Steve, the lead mechanic there has fixed up my old tri bike and mountain bike like new.  I'll definitely take my new tri bike there for tune-ups, etc.

There's just something about Bike Barn I don't like.  Can't seem to put my finger on it though.

Lonestar Bikes is definitely the place to go.

I can't stand Bike Barn.  I think their fit studio down in their West U. store is awesome and have had two bikes fitted there... but I otherwise avoid the franchise like the plague.  I'm pretty savvy with bike wrenching and do most of that myself - even on my Trek Speed Concept 9.9 which is not an easy bike to fiddle with.  I had to take it to a shop on one occasion so far.  I took it to Lonestar as opposed to the official Trek dealer (Bike Barn) that is literally across the street.

I'm less than 5 minutes from that shop, so I use them for all my small bike needs; tubes, etc.  Kurt, Gabe and the rest are all a good group of folks.  My wife and I also join them for their weekend rides periodically when we're too lazy to drive out with our normal groups.

For my real bike work, I go into town to Shama cycles.  It's a different approach to a LBS, but it's been an incredible place to be a part of for me.

Bike Barn also typically has a women's clinic each month geared to women bikers only.

I guess I'm biased towards Bike Barn since my fiance manages one of the largest stores in town. They've always done work on my bikes and I've never had a problem.
