Maybe next year. I'll be doing the oly at Bangs Lake that day. The bike course at bangs has to be one of the best around.

I thought it was a great first race for me but the 45 minute standing in line on the sand was a bit tough and then I ran over dozens of slower swimmers.  At least this year I know to start up closer with the 7.5 minute wave.

My wife and I did this last year together. We just signed up again today. This one is fun and close to home. It's hard to pass up.

I've actually talked a few of my buddies to run it, it will be their first tri's.  Always fun to get other people infected with the Tri bug.

And you're right about how great it is that it's local.

I've got a bunch of people from lifetime fitness cycle club doing it as their first. It's great as a first tri, but with all the newbies there it makes the transition area a bit dicey. We had a carbon bike damaged there last year.

All the other tri's and races I do cost me a hotel room, dinner, breakfast, gas, etc. Being close is a HUGE plus.

That sucks with the bike!  My problem with the newbies (and I was one but still knew the rules) was so many people riding 2 and 3 people ride down 75th (I think it was 75).  On the two loop course your dealing with a lot of slower people and I got caught and was not able to pass.

I had that problem big! Especially since I had a 9 minute swim and didn't go off till later. I was aggressive on the bike. I just yelled "on the left" constantly and passed wherever I could. The second loop was aweful! I avg'd near 24mph on the bike. Who knows what that would have been if I could stay aero and not worry about people blocking me all the time. I was new, not to long ago as well. So it's cool, it's all for fun anyway

I'm in... Signed up a while ago and this was my first tri last year too. I live in Naperville so I bike the course quite a bit and swim at the beach too. There were a number to cyclists (I use that term loosely!) riding all over the place on 75th and West. Try to look & plan well ahead and get used to yelling "on yer right!"...

It was my Tri-Cherry a couple years back, but I am passing this year due to $$$.  Although it is practically in my back yard, that much money for a super crowded sprint distance is a little too much.

do the race twice.  first time i did the race, there were already competitors finished before i got in the water.  although getting back into transition would be tough

Yea, but one is a capital "L" and one is a lower case "l" so you can see how they would make that mistake

Great job out there everyone!!

The bike course was so much more organized this year!! If they could only get the swim organized this race would be really AWESOME! The wife and I had a great time. Both of us had some PR's in the race, even though I had a sinus infection! We were really happy with the results!

Was my second year and I really enjoyed it again. Biggest issue on bike course was folks blocking on the left. I probably told 50 people, politely, they needed to move right when not passing. Would have beaten last years time except I pulled something in my foot on the run and had to limp most of it. Put up really bad run in spite of trying to trot through the pain. Couldn't walk last night. . Otherwise I really like this race.

It was my second year also, I thought it was run great.  Last year I start swimming until 7:45, this year I moved more to the front and went off at abou 7:10, I still passed a ton of people in the swim.  The bike was not as bad but I think that was due to my early start, the first lap was practically empty and second lap wasn't horrible.  I wanted 7:30 minute miles for the run and I would have been there, but I stopped in the port-a-potty at the beginning of the run and that put me behind a bit.  I pr'd by a minute and half from last year.
