'preciate the love todds. The one thing that I cannot believe people still do is drink sodas. I used to down about 2 a day, and my body reflected it. Now, I scoff at people who still drink them and complain about how they can't seem to loose weight, and they eat "healthy".

Here is a link to the most informative video I have ever watched. It is about sugars and how the body metabolizes the different kinds of sugar (OMG there is more than one kind?!?!):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM&feature=player_embedded

Seriously, it is about an hour long, but you will probably re-evaluate what you eat and when. Life changing stuff here.

Ah yes.  The Lustig lecture.  Which has been torn to shreds by people who are actually objective about things.

I'm pretty sure the arguments that dairy is unhealthy is false. I mean, milk for example is a natural phenomenon for mammals to support their offspring. "You can milk just about anything with nipples. "

Continuing the deterioration of this thread...
Milk is natural for the species own offspring to drink - and only until a certain age. Not for one species to drink ANOTHER species' milk. For a lifetime.

My opinion only, of course.

DerekL, you must be one of those guys who likes to ague things like facts. I agree that some of the ultimatums are extreme, but the science behind it is ...well..., science.

So, I've been really trying to make some dietary changes and move away from processed foods.  The general/most consistent idea from pretty much all the science/research seems to be to eat natural, real, whole, un-processed foods (I know, revolutionary thinking, HA).

So we've been hitting the fish market and farmers market, and staying away from anything that comes out of a bag, box, or can but are having a hard time coming up with some variety.

Anyone have any favorite dishes, snacks, etc. that they'd recommend?

And back to our regularly scheduled program........I like to snack on nuts, and fruits. KISS is in mind......

Scout7 - 2011-07-05 5:04 PM My carrots come in a bag..... My Clementines came in a wooden box.

And speaking of carrots....were we speaking of them?

Anyway, did you know that baby carrots are actually the hollowed out cores of BIG carrots that have rotted or are otherwise not fit to be sold as regulation carrots and must instead be placed in a little bag and labelled as "baby carrots" so that people think they are cute and will gobble them up?

Huh? Did you know that??

Does that count as being a processed food? I mean, it did undergo a transformative process.

You are correct Guinness Guy........they should be eaten in their natural , rotten state.

Now speaking of Guinness........THAT is certainly a processed food.

But there is no way I am giving up beer!

No. Freaking. Way.

Well, now, if it's from Germany or follows the Reinheitsgebot, it should be all natural, so there ya go.

I made a Persian omelet (kuku sabzi) that was mighty tasty  - mix together  about 3 cups of chopped spinach, a handful of chopped parsley, salt and pepper, 1.5 cup chopped green onioins, a tablespoon of flour, and ground cumin. Pour over that 8 beaten eggs. Pour all into a heated frying pan coated with olive oil (or ghee, but I can't get that here) and cook over medium for 5 minutes. Then stick under the broiler for 5 minutes.

Full of greens with a bit of protein. Use eggs from a local farm you trust, if possible.

Same reasons vegetarians knock meat, etc. Segments of the population believe that {insert dietary bias here} is responsible for half the diseases that afflict modern man.

So are you saying not only are studies someties biased, but that the people reading said studies sometimes apply their own biases to them?????   Or even worse search out studies that confirm their biases while ignoring those that don't????  Crazy.

i LOVE making ice cream!

I actually burnt out the motor on my first ice cream maker since I used it so darn much.

I have the BEST recipe for peach ice cream once they are in season...........ooooooohhhhhh so good.

I always use organic cream when I make ice cream. Just tastes better, IMHO.

That's the best wedding gift we got, was an ice cream maker. My fave is french vanilla, my wife gets the vanilla pods and extracts the beans herself. mmmmm....
