. Maybe you can covert your post count into miles.

"Covert"?  As in "operations"??

What's the exchange rate?  Is the Euro or the American dollar doing better?

World record yearly cycling mileage is 75K.  Your friend in SoCal has some catching up to do.

Average pro cyclist averages 20-25K.  So, it's possible, but I can't imagine a triathlete would be able to pull that off and still have time left to swim and run.  Especially since the majority of us have other full time jobs and families.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I typically only have 1-2 hours of training time available daily Monday-Friday, with time on the weekends of a long workout.  Assuming I want to actually get other things done.

I'll be closing in on a whopping 600 miles by the end of the month...I might reach 1k by the end of the year.

Just thought I'd chime in and bring the average down a little bit.

Holy cow I feel like a slacker. Last year's 4200 was my most in a year by about 400 miles. This year I'm probably going to end up with 3000-3500 if I start pushing it AND my life calms down a bit from what it's been the first 6 months of this year.

I can help bring it down too. Last year was 2,200 miles. This year is WAY off, due to working 2 jobs for the first 5 months, but I've fixed that now, so the coming months have a lot of promise.

Back when I was racing bikes (and not doing triathlons), I rode 8,000 - 10,000 miles a year.  Now with adding swimming and running, I'm riding 5,000 miles per year (last 2 years).  I have a full time job, a 7 year old daughter and a dog.

This guy didn't do triathlons.  All he did was bike. (Apparently, all he DID was bike)

Thanks.  I feel better about the 3K I put on last year.

Wow, I might hit a whopping 3000 miles this year! All hills and intervals for training, steady hard efforts in races. I've been on a long run block for the past year though, since it's my weakest event. Then again, I'm not the best biker in the world either.

When I first started tri I had fairly strong legs, so biking was my (relative) strength. However, because of that I've been mostly letting my biking coast while I learned to run and swim (with varied marginal success). I pulled up a yearly graph of my bike mileage for the last 6.5 years from the logs. For the first three years I averaged a bit over 3k km, or around 2k miles. The next two years I did an IM each year and averaged closer to 3k miles. I've been in something of a motivational slump since and didn't quite hit 1k miles last year. This year I'm barely over 500 miles so far and barely averaged 20 mph at a HIM recently. YMMV

A little over 4,000 this year. Will finish about 6,000.
Married with 3 kids and have to train around their activities and my MD call schedule. However, once I win the lottery, I'll retire and be able to train while they're in school. They are very supportive as I train for my first Ironman in Louisville. I'm very blessed in that respect.

2010:  951 Miles

2011:  587 Miles

I should break 1,000 this year.  Yeah, that's what I've been telling myself, it's quality not quantity.  O.K. I will get faster with a few more miles in the saddle, working on it.  But very happy with performance given lack of miles, to Bryans point.

I ride 1 to 2 times a week before work, 5:45-6:00 departure, can get 30 miles in and still make it to work by 8:15.  A longer ride on weekends, usually Sunday morning, less cagers on the road.

Robert Panzeras 'Fast Cycling' says 5,000 mi for beginners (category 5), 10,000 mi for intermediates (category 4). I'm aiming for category 5, but i'll be glad if i can surpass it this year. I dont think higher categories can be achieved without affecting the two other disciplines, my job and my family.
