Finally got the new bike!

My new road bike arrived yesterday.  I had to be home to sign for it, so I was in a wait state all day until it finally showed up at 4:50.  My roommate and I put it together - supposedly a 25-min chore, but since neither of us knows anything about bikes, it took two hours.    By that time it was dark and I could only take it for a spin around the block.

What an amazing difference from the hybrid!  The hybrid was a pretty nice one and the road bike is not fancy, so I didn't expect to feel it immediately.  But from the second I got on it in a very low gear, it just took off (relative to what I was used to).  I swear it purred.  Tomorrow I'm getting it fitted at the LBS, and I need them to look at the gear shifting since it's very choppy.  We probably screwed something up there.  Still, I'm sure I'll get on it again tonight since I won't be able to resist.  I'll put the clipless pedals on to try them out.

Tomorrow night is a late-night 25-mile ride through downtown Chicago (organized ride, 9000 riders).  What a cool break-in ride.  What a cool place to get in my mandatory clipless pedal newbie falls.
