Subject: Brick the Cancer Workout - July 30 Re-posted to remove soliciations. Anyone who missed the 100 Miles to Nowhere bike ride or who participated and is a glutton for silly workout games and fighting cancer, join us at the brown_dog house for a Brick the Cancer Workout to benefit Athletes for a Cure (the fundraising arm of the Prostate Cancer Foundation) on Saturday, July 30 at 6:30am. We will ride the approximately 30 mile Roswell Ride, then transition in the Brooks Running Transition Zone (garage) for a 2.75 mile t-run, then repeat the whole shebang two more times for a total of 90 miles of biking and 8.25 miles of running. We totally stole the idea for this workout from one of Dan Arnett of Endurance Concept's athletes, so you have Dan to thank for the fun and games. If you only want to do one or two loops or want to start at a different time, just show up whenever and run/ride as long as you like. 6:30am? Why so early? July is HOT! And, if you are planning to attend the NAMC Braves game in the evening, you will have plenty of time to work out, mow the grass, take a shower and then enjoy the game with the peeps. Roswell Ride? Why not Mountain Park? You are more than welcome to do the bike ride of your choice, or skip the ride portion entirely and just run, but since most folks are familiar with the Bike Roswell Route and my signs for the 100 MTN were an epic fail, we thought it would be simpler to do a route everyone knows. Don't know the route? We will have printed cue sheets on hand that you can take in your pocket or copy onto your arm. 2.75 mile run? What kind of distance is that? It is the distance around the loop from our house. There are two cul-de-sacs on the loop that you can add to get to an even 3 miles, if you prefer round numbers (Karen). I'll include this information in the cue sheets also. Aid Station? GU Electrolyte Brew, GU Recovery Brew, Chomps and Energy Gel will be available as well as plain water and other aid-station fare. I will actually make the PB&Js this time. If you need to stop in the middle of the ride, there is a tidy bathroom and a snack-bar at the Roswell Riverside Park. Fee? Rules? As before, no fee. You will, however, be encouraged to donate to Athletes for a Cure. Please pmail me if you need (a) directions to the house or (b) the address of Katie's donation page. As before, whenever you arrive, please also sign-in on one of the waiver pages and hopefully I won't lose the list this time. You are responsible for your bike and your safety, so please be aware of the cars and bring appropriate tire-change equipment and obey all traffic laws. Feel free to bring any friends or family who might want to enjoy the day with us. Schwag? Maybe, maybe not. I don't think I can top that beef energy bar. After-party? Whose house is this again? Of course! You and the family should bring your bathing suits and folding chairs and stick around before, during or after the ride with the kids to run through the sprinkler and enjoy some recovery beverages and BBQ. |
