Comments: First tried to draft Steve. I figured since he was headed to Lake Placid and shooting for sub-10hrs, that he'd be a good guy to draft- but he wasn't all that fast in the water- so I passed him after 50 yards or so. Then I tried to chase down the only other swimmer in front of me- Craig, a former olympic swimmer... who I didn't know until afterwards was a former olympic swimmer. Needless to say- I didn't catch him. So- this caused me to burn out a bit. What would you do differently?: Start out a bit slower and ease into a stronger pace. Could have used more of a warmup. Transition 1
Comments: bike was parked just feet away from the water exit. I waivered around a bit trying to get my wetsuit off. One heel came off quickly- the other required quite a bit of time. But got my shoes on quickly (no socks), helmet, glasses and was off- although it took me a few tries to get into the pedals. What would you do differently?: use body glide Bike
Comments: If I worked it much harder- my calves would have locked up on the run. I did all the climbs at LT or above, and took it easier on the downhills. Absolutely no faster than last year. What would you do differently?: I dunno' Transition 2
Comments: nothing fancy. rode right into Transition area. Dismounted with shoes on. Removed shoes. slipped into socks and running sneakers. Almost forgot to remove my cycling helmet. Grabbed my running hat (not sure why) and left. Run
Comments: As usual, the calf is always tight for the 1st 1/2 mile, but it loosened up. I picked up the pace going up hill and felt like I was pretty much at my limit. Any faster and I wouldn't have been able to sustain it. The downhill- was kinda' steep for my tastes, so I really didn't free-run it. There was some holding back going down, and I didn't push through any pain at the end... I backed off a touch. Just a touch. What would you do differently?: I hadn't run in nearly a week due to an injured big toe joint- so this was my 1st day back. Legs weren't 100%, but close enough Post race
Warm down: Had two veggie burgers, lots of cucumbers and some chips. Oh- and two cookies. Thanks Mark! Event comments: $5 gets you a friendly barbeque and someone to take times. It's just a fun, club training tri- but the lake and scenery can't be beat. It was a pretty day to get out there and get your motor running. Last updated: 2011-07-07 12:00 AM
