Sunny
Total Time = 1h 36m 24s
Overall Rank = 83/103
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 2/6
Pre-race routine:

Drove 2 hours to get there, ate a blueberry bagel and drank a diet dr. pepper
Event warmup:

Standing around talking with Sue (sue7013), Jessica (TriTakeMeAway) & Mike (G8RLA94). Took some pictures. Explained the course to my son who was serving as our photographer.

Our daughter decided it was too early for her to get up, so she stayed with my parents... :)
Swim
  • 10m 9s
  • 481 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had an EXCELLENT swim--for me!! Last year I got caught up in the current and got pulled out into the channel. I was REALLY scared of that this year. The current was pretty strong once you passed the jetties.
What would you do differently?:

Not a freaking thing!!
Transition 1
  • 01m 53s
Bike
  • 49m 6s
  • 15.4 miles
  • 18.82 mile/hr
Comments:

Took a bit to get both shoes clipped in. Strong headwind rounding the first curve, and it stayed pretty windy most of the ride.

I could feel that I hadn't been on the bike in a LONG time! My legs didn't give me what I asked for, and I had saddle issues!!
What would you do differently?:

Not have a 3 week vacation from the bike before a race??
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Legs were shaking coming into T2. Calves cramped up pulling on my running shoes.
Run
  • 33m 51s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs HURT like a sonofabiatch until mile 2. I know--almost over by then!! My shins and calves were in spasms. I would run about 10 steps, and think I was gonna die and have to walk. I kept telling myself that "pain is weakness leaving the body", but it just didn't want to leave quick enough!!

Saw Jessica and Sue on my way out, and Mike on the way in. High fived and tried to keep running.

What would you do differently?:

Ummmm...not get cramps in my legs.
Post race
Warm down:

Got a water, found my son, went back and waited for Mike to finish.

Stood around waiting for the awards ceremony to collect my hardware!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My big fat tail and my leg cramps.

Event comments:

Excellent race! This was my FIRST race last year, the one that started it all!! WOO HOO!! Felt good to be back and beat last year's time by 13 minutes.

You go, girl!!!  13 minute PR for that race, HARDWARE  *bling*, after the CRIM and hospital stay, and not even a Wendi moment?  How good does life get?!

I have no doubts that next year's crystal river will see you carve off another huge chunk of time and keep lowering the bar...but until then, enjoy a pat on the back and a big ol' grin for your killer race.

No puking, but cramps.  Hmmm.  Great race.  Just kind of wondering how you get your motivation if you LIKE the ideas of crazy car drivers with you while you bike!

Great job Wendi.

P.S.  Did Mike ever tell you I called last week??

I don't think I'd ever live to see a g8rsax race report where there wasn't something involuntarily coming out of somewhere on your body.    Congrats on your race.  Even bigger congrats on the hardware you took home.  Great improvement over last year too!  13 mins in a sprint distance tri is a HUGE amount.

Swim was nice and solid.  I heard the bike was really windy - you did great considering you haven't biked in the last 6 months.    The run sounded uncomfortable....but you hung in there.  Congrats on your great time and great place.  1 year later - 13 mins faster.  NICE!
