Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:50am to drive from home up to WV. Wanted a close parking spot and plent of time to relax. At some cereal and OJ before driving up then had a mini Clif Bar and some raspberry Newtons an hour before start time.
Event warmup:

Walked transition to get the layout, got in the water for a little swimming and to test out the goggles I had to rush and buy since mine where broken when I pulled them out of my gear bag.
Swim
  • 08m 7s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Messed up the begining by following the orange bouyes only and not knowing I had to go around the red ones too. The kayaker let me know and I had to correct my path. Lost a little time there. Hit the shallow section along the far beach and ran a little.
What would you do differently?:

pay attention and realize I had to go all the way to the red markers.
Transition 1
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

I feel smooth in transition and the wetsuit strippers help, but for some reason I am still a little slow through T1. I want to be about 15 seconds faster and need to figure it out a little more.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, I guess just practice them.
Bike
  • 58m 57s
  • 20.5 miles
  • 20.87 mile/hr
Comments:

Used my strong leg to my advantage. Just went as hard as I though I could without compromising my run. Fun course with knowing there is going to be some suffering going on. The headwind going back up 49 was unwelcomed, but everyone had to deal with it.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

I am much better at T2 and it was smooth and quick.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 37m 18s
  • 5 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

I though I was going much slower than I actually was. passed a lot of people. I never felt good on the run, and thought I was going to puke the last 1.5 miles. When I saw my time and pace I was surprised and happy with it, but I know I can still improve the run.
What would you do differently?:

Run more and longer.
Post race
Warm down:

Found the family and then hung out on the little beach with the kids. Headed to Plymouth for lunch after about an hour of getting my witts back.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing.

Event comments:

I will be back next year to try and improve my time.

Solid race.  I saw you cruising at the finish - you were looking strong and not at all like you wanted to puke!  I tried to make it to the chute and say hello but you vanished.  Great race.

I had to go lay down in the shade right when I crossed the line.  I am glad I looked good, becuase I did not feel it.  I am now onto the Xterra part of my summer, but I should be back at a road tri sometime in September, though it will not be Clough since I am doing the relay around Winnipesaukee that day.  Maybe the Pitch Pine Challenge.
