Subject: Where to find tri suits in larger sizes?
I'm going to compete in my first tri in October (eeeek!), and am thinking I'd like to get a tri suit.  Not sure where to look, though.  Do they run a bit small?  I know they're supposed to be snug, but I really don't want it to push my "curves" out and scare everybody.  I'm 5'6", female, and about 180ish pounds.  Usually wear about a size 16 on a good day, and working on losing more weight.  Any suggestions?  I want something that will make me look extra cool since I'm chubby, and need all the help I can get.  Thanks!

I would highly recommend shorts and a top. I wore a one piece my first year because I didn't want to spend the money on 2 pieces and it was not flattering. I think you'd do best to find some tri shorts you like and bigger tops are pretty easy to find. Our area has a tri store but a lot of the bike shops actually have a better selection. Call around your area to see if you can try some stuff on in person. Good luck & have fun!

I highly recommend looking at Danskin.  I have a trisuit and they are the only brand that actually has reasonable sizes.  In most tribrands I can barely squeeze into an XL even though I am a size 10/12 (ridiculous!) but with the Danskin I have a Medium suit (it fit better when I was a size 8/10).  They offer up to XXL, but you wouldn't even need that I don't think.

You can buy online: http://www.danskin.com/product/1506/Triathlon-Printed-Tri-Suit.html

I bought mine at REI but that was many years ago.

I ended up going with a men's XL one peice as I'm 6' tall and 210.  It looks okay when I'm standing there and is insanely comfortable, but is not flattering when I'm bent over on my tribike or running   I'd think you'd have more flexibility with two peices.

Thank you for the info!  I checked out the Danskin, but it looks like they're out of a lot of the larger sizes.  I did some more looking online, but it's a bit scary to buy that way without trying on.  I do have an REI and a Sports Authority near me, so maybe I'll duck in there and try some on.

Huh, that's weird. I was able to add the trisuits to a shopping bag.  For something like this I would consider getting two sizes and then later returning one.  Might be worth the shipping for peace of mind.  Good luck!!

I really like skirt sports...I usually wear a size 16 (I am 5'1 about 180) and last year ordered an XXL tri top and shorts from them because I was afraid of them being too small but actually found that they were too big for me.  I made due with them last year but just ordered a L top and XL bottom (I am bottom heavy Smile) for this year.  I really like the length and cut of their tops and bottoms both.
