Somewhat contemplating getting some bibs after reading all the love for them here... Do they make bibs like tri shorts, with a smaller pad for running? Or would the bibs be for riding only?

I have bike shorts that I couldn't run in, and some nice tri shorts that I wear far more than the bike shorts - they're comfortable, even for a 60-mile ride - and I can run in them too.

You can get bibs with a smaller chamois, however I wouldn't spend much time running in bibs. While I really like my trisuits and trishorts, for me they are race day attire (or if I were going to do a brick workout of some type where having tri clothing would make sense). Beyond that, I swim in a swim suit, ride in bibs and a jersey and run in shorts and a shirt.

I race in my older pearl bibs. I got out my wife's seam ripper and took some of the padding out of the chamois to make it more thin and then she sewed them back together for me. Running in them is great. I actually wear them now anytime I run.

I'm what you would call "festively plump" and the bibs keep my gut from moving around too much.

As for riding, I'll never buy another pair of non-bib shorts. Even on the mountain bike, I've gone from baggies with built in chamois to wearing baggies with no liner over bibs.

Bibs = nipple sandpaper.  I'll stick with shorts.  Good, tight shorts without a string at the waist are quite comfortable.

Let me preface this by saying that I have never tried bibs.......but personally I cannot imagine that I would like them. I cannot stand ANYTHING that is one piece with shoulder straps. I wear a two piece wet suit, a two piece swim suit and raced in a tri top and shorts instead of a onsie. I simply hate the feeling of the pull against my shoulders. Always have.

I only ever wear tri shorts anyway.......don't even use bike shorts.

gordongecko - 2011-07-13 4:52 PM Tri shorts all the way. I say train with what you race in.

Do you also say don't do flip turns because you can't do flip turns in an OWS?
