Subject: RE: 100 Mile foot race training schedule I've done two 100 milers, so not a veteran, but I've managed to find my way to the finish line on both of my two attempts :-) There's wide variation in training plans among individuals for 100 milers. This looks like a reasonable plan to me, although it's not the type of plan I've tended to follow. Personally, I don't do well with back to back long runs, so I don't do them. But, I know many people advocate them. I think the light day on Tues is due to the fact that you'll still be recovering from the big back to back weekend before it. For me, I typically just have one big long run each week, topping out at 30-35 miles. I'll always take the next day off. My mid-week runs range from 4 to 10 miles, building up to a range of about 6 to 12 as total volume increases. Similar to this plan, I also generally take off two days per week for recovery. I'll run 6 days a week if I'm feeling good and have the time, but two days off is more common for me. I rarely reach as much as 70 mpw on a non-race week. I might hit that level just once or maybe twice during a build-up to a 100. If something's missing in this plan, it's a "build-up race", or two. I'd want to include at least one 50 miler or 100K somewhere around 4 to 8 weeks out from your 100. So, your plan should be constructed around these races as well. |
