Total Time = 1h 39m 37s
Overall Rank = 261/364
Age Group = Men 25-29
Age Group Rank = 31/33
Pre-race routine:

Up early - really early. I left with plenty of time and was like the 4th car in the lot. I ate a small breakfast on the way and drank a couple of glasses of water.

Once I got all marked up I set up my transition and stretched. That left me plenty of time to relax and take in the surroundings.
Event warmup:

100M swim
Swim
  • 11m 42s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

I thought this would be my strongest leg. Boy was I wrong. I caught a leg to the gut in the first 20 meters which through me for a loop. I have to rethink my strategy next time.
What would you do differently?:

Try to get to the outside and swim much stronger in the first 200 M.
Transition 1
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

Not bad - I did the bike segment in my running shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Try to get out of the water and move more quickly!
Bike
  • 52m 35s
  • 14.8 miles
  • 16.89 mile/hr
Comments:

My chain came off about .25 mile into the ride. I had to stop put it back on. Dang! I had a good speed, for me anyway.
Transition 2
  • 01m 31s
What would you do differently?:

Nadda.
Run
  • 30m 54s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

I kept a good stride going and didn't walk. A good time, for me.
What would you do differently?:

I think I had more to give on the way back. I wish I would have ran harder the way back.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think I could have tapered better leading up to the race. I also could have slept more in the days leading up to the race.

Event comments:

This was my first triathlon. I can't wait till my next race.

My goals for this race were:
1) Finish strong : No walking, bike at my avg, swim well - Except for swimming I did well.
2) Finish in 1:41 - I beat it by 2 minutes. That really good for me.

Nothing to brag about in terms of my rank here. But I was very happy with my results. I know how to do better.

Nice race, Jeff.  You beat me by about 30 seconds.

I felt the same way abut the run...seemed uphill all the way to the turnaround, but on the way back, it didn't seem downhill at all.

Hope to meet you at the next one!

Nice job, Jeff. It's always good to beat your goals. Who cares what your rank was? You beat your own expectations and that's what really counts.
