So I'm doing my first sprint tri at the end of August, and I've been considering wearing a tutu over my tri shots. Any of you ladies (or men) ever complete any kind of race in a tutu? Any advice or warnings against doing so?

I know pulling it on in T1 will add a few seconds to my time, but I'm far from fast at anything in the first place so I'm not very worried about the additional time required to get it on. I figured at least I can feel cute in case I feel like dying after the swim

I saw a triathlete at a race I went to watch in May with a tutu on.  I couldn't tell you about how she fared during the race though...Smile

Try to google it and see what othe folks have mentioned about wearing tutus.

I've seen several girls wearing tutu's at running races but never at a triathlon. It looked like their arms were hitting the tutu when they were running. You're probably going to want to try riding your bike and running in the tutu before race day. A tutu probably isn't the most aero dynamic piece of clothing that you could wear.

There are a lot of really cute women's cycling and triathlon clothes online.

I've done a half mary in an elvis suit with rubber elvis hair, and played ultimate in skirts, nighties, pajamas, and nothing. I don't think you'll really notice the tutu unless it's rubbing something. Just check it out in a training ride and run to make sure there is no chafing.

Not sure if this classifies as a "tutu" but BT's very own Lisa Conklin won a contest and free race entry at IMKS 70.3  I think she's worn it 3 years in a row, I saw her at last months race in full costume.  Very cool and uplifting, as I was beginning mile 6...

I've run multiple marathons, half-marathons and the marathon in IM CdA in a tutu.  It's awesome!  I've also worn a tiara, Mardi Gras mask and other strange head adornments in tris and running races.  Life should be fun.

I did muddy buddy dressed as angel complete with tutu and wings. No problems biking or running in the tutu. Just make sure the shorts underneath are slightly longer than the tutu so it doesn't rub against your legs.

Hey that's me!
I dress up as "Glinda the Good Witch" for IM Kansas every year - it's a lot of fun! I would not recommend RIDING in a tutu, but definitely run! I just put it with my T2 stuff and pull it right on. I actually use the tutu as my race belt. I get all kinds of comments like "did you lose a bet?" and oohs and aahs from the little girls. It's hilarious! I also carry a wand and grant wishes Kiss

I've put on a french maid outfit for the run of an IM distance race last year.  I've also dressed up as Wonder Woman and worn a 3/4 length dress at the Nike Women's Marathon.  So, I think a tutu is manageable.  It may take you a couple seconds to get a tutu on, but it will be well worth the comments you'll get.

Thanks for all the replies!! I was just hoping to hear no horrible stories of chafing so I think I'm gonna definitely have to rock the tutu come race day. Anything that could distract from the agony I normally have on my face during race pictures would be a big plus!

Subject: Tri-ing in a tutu....complete!

First tri was completed this past Saturday. Just thought I'd post a pic of rocking the pretty pink tutu in the race. I also managed to not fall, not crash, not drown, not cause anyone else to crash, or screw up my transitions so all in all it was a success! All the great posts on this site definitely made it possible!

Lots of very positive comments. I was cramping from pretty much the beginning of the run so they really helped to distract me from the lovely sensations I was feeling. I stopped and walked on the run and was soon told to "get moving tutu girl" and as I was running in, lots of people were yelling for the "tutu girl" so it was really a nice motivation.

The only people I've seen do the run at tris in tutus were guys. Smile Not sure what's up with that but they make me want to do it in a tutu too.
