It looks like it is still going to be really hot next week. I hope they have a lot more water and ice ready to go this year. Should be an interesting two weeks with HOLT long course and Chisago half both in the extreme heat. Bring it on!

Hi!  I'll be driving up from Chicago to do this one.  It'll be my first outdoor triathlon.  I'm super excited and blindingly terrified at the same time!

Don't be terrified, it is a good race. The swim is short and well protected. The bike seems long but is a nice course. The run is fairly flat also. Just have fun and enjoy the experience of your first outdoor triathlon.

Bryan. What's your goal for half?
I see you've finished 4 minutes in front of me at HOLT.

I'll be there next weekend; not racing, but on support duty. Jeremy is doing the half as are many of our TriRochester club. I'm pretty glad I'm not racing after how miserable yesterday felt.

I'll be there.  First Sprint of the season after two Oly.  First time on this course so I'm excited.  I'll be coming off of the U2 concert the night before and headed to the Warrior Dash after.  Can we say over scheduled???

After HOLT I don't even know if it pays to have a time goal. I'm looking at working at IM pacing so I'll be happier with a little slower time than I think I am capable of. I'll be upset if I go any faster than about 2:48 on the bike because that will mean I pushed harder than I wanted to. Unless we continue to have heat and humidity through the race I would say I should be around 5:30-5:45. Given the same conditions as HOLT and you could tack another hour on.

I'm with him...we come as a pair. Can't wait for my first sprint tri of the season! Does anyone have information on the bike course conditions?

The roads for the bike course are in great shape.  Very smooth and only a handful of rough patches.  The rough section of the road is near the beginning of the course HWY 77 up to 14 is the only section that is bad and it is not really that bad.  Overall it is a very flat course with only one hill coming about 1/2 way in the race.  I've ridden the course a few times and everyone I ride it with loves the condition.  I have the feeling that it will be a fast course.  I wish I was racing this weekend, but a back injury has me sidelined for the foreseeable future.

I'll be doing the sprint this year after doing the HIM the last 2 years.  Knee surgery last November has limited my running and I'm only doing short course races ths year.  Long bike for a sprint which is good for me.

I'll be out there for the sprint.  First race after IMCDA, so I'll see where the body is at.  I'm keeping expectations lower then most years.  This will be my 4th year doing this race and have always enjoyed it.  Good luck to all.

I'm heading out for a ride on the bike course tonight.  I'll give a report later.

Road it tonight, but I forgot my garmin. Friend I road with had it at just over 25 miles. The course has small rollers with many flat areas. One noticeable hill after you turn off 72 onto 11. Surface is really nice except one short stretch in beginning just before you turn on 14. If weather cooperates, I can see a fast bike.

Hope you enjoyed CDA. I heard the swim was very cold but it was an otherwise great day. I've got this one and AZ on my list of future choices.

Small hijack -

MNDiver, the swim was very cold.  So cold that I got leg cramps from the temp.  Once I warmed up, I was fine, which leads me to believe it wasn't an issue of hydration or nutrition.  It was a great race though.  Good luck with AZ.

By the way, Chisago Lake is like a bathtub right now.

jron, i am in a group of 20 plus HI racers from lifetime, There is a lot of talk about water temp. Midwest said that for sure they can be used. I saw your comment on how hot the water is. Its not over USAT limit for absolutely no use for safety is it?

I don't know what actual temp is.  I fished a lake near by on Sunday, and surface temp was between 79 and 81.  I'm hoping that with the wind, it'll stir up some of the deeper water and we'll get a wetsuit legal race.  By feel, it felt very warm.  I didn't get the normal "shock below the belt" as I slowly walked in, if you know what I mean.  But, they might find a nice cool pocket.  For those who are racing the long course, I hope it's not too hot.

Little nervous about the warmer water temps. I swam at Lifetime outdoor pool yesterday and the warm water made me nauseous. If it is wetsuit legal, and I'm sure they will find a cool enough spot to check, I'm not willing to lose time not wearing one. It will make it a tougher swim comfort wise. Need to be careful on the overheating signs.

I have modified my older full suit to a sleeveless suit. Will have to see how it works out on Saturday during a training swim in Chisago.

I'll be there doing my 2nd HIM this season.  It should be a good reality check for IMWI.  Hopefully I can break my record of 5:57 from Liberty.  Best of luck to all the athletes.  Be safe and have fun!

I think you will find the Chisago course an easier venue, weather aside. Best of luck at setting a new PR.

Seems like the sprint thread kinda got hijacked with HIM info:-

I was curious about the course and didn't see an accurate mapmyride map so I created one. For those that are curious about elevation gain, etc... here it is:
