Good job, Courtney! Stop with the "I suck" garbage. You did a freaking triathlon this morning!

It was nice meeting you this morning. Sucks to hear about the stomach issues you had to deal with. For a while, I was wondering if I was going to have issues, myself.

And to answer your question about how long I've been doing tris: My first was Jack and Adam's Rookie Triathlon in early May. My second was the Olympic distance Capital of Texas Tri on Memorial Day. This was my third.

I've been a regular runner for about 3 years now. I started training for tri's late August of last year.

Great job! I was glad to hear you and some others comment on the "rolling hills". The last 2 before the end of the bike leg were killer -- but the ending downhill was fun!

Isn't it hard not to eat crazy the night before a race? I always feel awesome having finished training and had a couple of taper days. For me, it took some real will power not to dive into a big dinner the night before - and I still had a little bit of an upset stomach afterward.

Courtney- great job for sticking with the race!  I have had my fill of BAD races!  It sucks, but it makes you appreciate the good ones even more!  I have the same problem as you- the more I started to tri training, the slower I got with running.  I'm fine with just running, but every tri I bomb the run regardless of how many BRICKS I do.  I hate it when people tell me "it just takes time" but I really believe it does.  Stick with it- you'll get faster and then people starting out will be asking you how you got so fast   I think it just takes awhile to build the type of endurance for a tri!  Way to go- you're still a triathlete!  Just use this race as a learning experience to better prepare for the next one!

Excellent triathlon, Courtney.  Don't feel that you "suck"; you did a great job and will undoubtedly only get better.  Cycling up hills is a whole new part of cycling that demands a lot of dedicated training so do not get discouraged if you can't dance up the mountains on your pedals yet.  Anyways, you averaged about 25kmph on the bike leg, which is pretty darned good.  Congratulations for a tri well done.

courtney_leone - 2005-09-06 3:26 PM I feel like a fish out of water when I'm IN the water. And I love swimming....just not in OW with a big group of people. I come out of the water so pissed off at my performance, and it clouds the rest of my race.

First of all, great job!  As someone said, you did just complete a triathlon, nothing to be disappointed about there.  I'm not sure if you are looking for advice, and I'm not sure if it would even help, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway.  My open water swims were disastrous at first, and then I started swimming near the back on the inside.  This way, I can sight off the rest of the wave, and also let all of the traffic get out of the way.  It really made a difference, along with starting out slow, and mentally telling myself that there isn't a wall 25 yards ahead that I can grab on to.  Maybe thats worth something, but if not, just keep gettin' wet.  You'll get there.

Nice job Courtney.  Thing about sprints is they are all different distances so it is hard to compare results....I'mthe queen of beating myself up about stuff so I understand

The perfect triathlon?  aahhh!!! ....  there is not such thing... I  don't think..    You can have a smoking run, and a horrible swim or a great swim and your biking sucks....  or the transitions are not faster enough....  there is sooooo many factors to deal with..    But the truth is... not matter what at the end of the day crossing the finish line is the best feeling in the world..   Because the triathlons are different (rolling hills, flatness, weather etc) it is hard to compare one with the other..   Next year, when you do these triathlons again, then you can compare and see much you have improved..  This season... well...  just take notes..  you are building a a series of records that will be beaten next year.... right?

Congratulations

Cheers....

Congratulations on finishing your third tri.

Next time you find yourself having another "bad day" remind yourself that 90% of competing is "Mental". It helps me to remind myself that if I can improve my mental state I can improve my performance.

Good job!

The little green thing is an Alpaca...or a cartoon version of an Alpaca.  It cracks me up too when I see it, that's why I use it as my image.  I think maybe I look like this thing when I run.  Lumbering along with a stupid look on my face.

The swim is my toughest event as well.  I force myself to concentrate on the other legs of the race just to get my mind off of the water.

Even though you think you suck, you really don't.  Swimming takes time to master, especially dealing with the crowd.  The more you race the more you'll get used to it.

With biking you need to do hills.  There's no getting around that.

Cycling does impact your running.  The better my cycling gets, the worse my running gets.  You dod lose some of your running speed as you devote more time to cycling.  Some of your running speed will come back as gain more experience, and do a few more bricks.

Good job on the race!
