Age Group Rank = 16/33
Pre-race routine:

Muscle Milk about 1 hour b4 race start
Event warmup:

Swim out to the first bouy and some dynamic stretching
Swim
  • 07m 51s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

There was a junior wave that went b4 us. This was a pretty rough swim especially getting out to the 1st bouy. They lined up even with the bouy and the whole pack had to swim back about 10-15 yards to get back to the bouy. My wife heard one of them as they exited the swim "I never want to swim in the ocean again"

Rough swim tends to help my AG placement. Moved up about 10% in AG standing on the swim compared to last race here. However, this is an ocean swim and shit happens....this time I got stung by a jellyfish...I guess I put the little bastard in a headlock b/c the sting was in my armpit and across my shoulder.

Sighting and navigation were spot on. Judged the current right and got to the first bouy just outside the fray and had a super smooth turn. Kept the last bouy in sight the best I could in the chop and hit that bouy w/in 1 ft and smooth turn into the home stretch.

Good overall swim.
What would you do differently?:

Buy some jellyfish repellent
Transition 1
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Lost 12 seconds in T1 from last race. Mostly due to rack placement. Seat got hung up a bit getting bike off the rack.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...heavy racks means more bikes on the rack which means I'm out of the water b4 alot of other peeps...
Bike
  • 43m 6s
  • 16 miles
  • 22.27 mile/hr
Comments:

32 seconds faster than Jax Tri #1. Last race my pace: 22 mph, AVG AG Pace: 22.4. This race my pace: 22.3 mph, AVG AG pace: 21.6. Noticable headwind on the way back, but was able to keep pace w/o seemingly too much more effort.

Almost had an incident coming into T2. Was executing flying dismount and was ready to jump at the line when the guy in fornt of me unclipped, put his feet on the ground and both of his feet slipped out from under him...glad he held it up, but feel sorry for his manhood as I think bouncing off the cross bar was the only thing that held him up.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

4 seconds faster than last race here
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...good T2
Run
  • 23m 25s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

About 30 secs slower than last race here, but moved up as percentage of AG place. Good hard finish. Agian I seem to lose a bit in the middle of the run.
What would you do differently?:

Concentrate more on pace from .5 miles in to 2.5
Post race
Warm down:

Looking for vinegar to take the sting out of the jellyfish sting. EMTs didn't carry any.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

FOCUS...I need to focus more when I'm on the run

Event comments:

Good small local race

Also did the race - fun; but I also got stung by a jelly fish. I didn't see what it looked like, but it did hurt.
